Product Description

Azopt Eye Drop (Brinzolamide 1%) is an ophthalmic carbonic anhydrase inhibitor designed to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
By decreasing aqueous humor production, it helps lower pressure inside the eye and protects the optic nerve from progressive damage.
Manufactured by Alcon Laboratories, Azopt is suitable for monotherapy or combination therapy with agents such as Timolol when additional IOP control is required.

Indications & Uses

Primary Indication
Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

Adjunctive Therapy
May be used with other pressure-lowering medications (e.g., Timolol, Latanoprost) when monotherapy does not provide sufficient control.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Effectively lowers IOP by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary body.
  • Onset of action occurs within 1–2 hours, with peak effect in 2–4 hours.
  • Long-term use helps prevent optic nerve damage and visual field loss.
  • Suitable as an alternative for patients who cannot tolerate prostaglandin analogs.

Directions for Use

  • Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, about 12 hours apart, or as directed by your doctor.
  • Shake well before each use to ensure uniform suspension.
  • Wash hands before application and avoid touching the dropper tip.
  • If using multiple ophthalmic medications, wait 5–10 minutes between each.
  • Remove contact lenses before instillation; reinsert after 15 minutes.

Storage

  • Store at room temperature (below 25–30°C).
  • Protect from moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
  • Discard 4 weeks after opening.

Possible Side Effects

Common
Temporary blurred vision, mild stinging or burning, foreign body sensation.

Uncommon
Eye redness, dry eyes, bitter taste after instillation.

Rare / Serious
Eye pain, corneal edema, allergic conjunctivitis — seek medical care if these occur.
