Product Description

Lamivir 150 contains Lamivudine 150 mg, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) with dual antiviral activity against HIV (HIV-1 and HIV-2) and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV).

In HIV therapy, it is a key backbone drug in combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens with agents such as Zidovudine, Abacavir, or Tenofovir, reducing viral load and delaying progression to AIDS. In HBV patients, it lowers liver inflammation, improves liver enzyme profiles, and slows fibrosis and cirrhosis development.

Lamivir 150 is also recommended in post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) following potential HIV exposure.
Widely available through an online pharmacy, it falls under both Antibiotics & Infections (Anti-HIV Drugs / AIDS) and Liver Health categories.

Indications & Uses

  • Antibiotics & Infections | Anti-HIV Drugs / AIDS: Suppresses viral replication in HIV-1 and HIV-2, prevents immune decline, and forms part of triple-drug ART regimens. Used in both nonoccupational and occupational PEP protocols.
  • Stomach & Liver & Digestive System | Liver Health: Treats chronic hepatitis B by reducing inflammation, lowering HBV DNA levels, improving liver enzymes, and delaying fibrosis progression.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Dual efficacy: Potent NRTI with activity in both HIV and HBV.
  • Mechanism: Blocks viral reverse transcriptase → inhibits viral DNA synthesis.
  • Liver protection: Reduces liver inflammation and prevents HBV-related liver damage.
  • Adherence benefit: Improves adherence and outcomes in HIV when used in fixed-dose combinations.
  • PEP relevance: Included in emergency HIV PEP regimens to prevent infection after exposure.

Directions for Use

  • HIV – Adults: 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg once daily, always with other ART drugs.
  • Chronic Hepatitis B – Adults: 100 mg once daily in patients with active viral replication.
  • PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis):
    Nonoccupational (nPEP):
    <50 kg – 4 mg/kg twice daily (max 150 mg/dose)
≥50 kg – 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg once daily × 28 days
  • Occupational (oPEP): 300 mg once daily (preferred) or 150 mg twice daily × 28 days
  • Pediatric HIV:
    Oral solution ≥3 months:
    5 mg/kg twice daily or 10 mg/kg once daily (max 300 mg/day).
    Tablets:
14–<20 kg: 75 mg twice daily or 150 mg once daily
20–<25 kg: 75 mg AM + 150 mg PM or 225 mg once daily
≥25 kg: 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg once daily
  • Neonatal: 2–4 mg/kg twice daily (adjust by age group).
  • Pediatric HBV (2–17 years): 3 mg/kg once daily (max 100 mg/day).
  • Important:
Always test for HIV before and during HBV treatment to avoid inadvertent monotherapy that can trigger resistance.
Monitor renal function; dose adjustments may be needed in renal impairment.

Storage

  • Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place.
  • Protect from heat and moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Possible Side Effects

  • Common: headache, fatigue, nausea, nasal congestion.
  • Occasional: elevated liver enzymes, pancreatitis, lactic acidosis.
  • Rare: severe hepatotoxicity or hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Long-term users should undergo regular monitoring of liver function and renal profile.

FAQs

No, it does not cure these conditions but helps control them by reducing viral replication and improving health outcomes.
No, Lamivudine must be combined with other antiretrovirals to prevent resistance and ensure full viral suppression.
Take it as soon as you remember. If it's near your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one. Do not double up.
Yes, Lamivudine is generally considered safe in pregnancy and is often included in prevention of mother-to-child transmission regimens.
Yes, if you are taking 150 mg twice daily, switching to 300 mg once daily is usually acceptable, but only under medical advice.
