Product Description

Travatan Eye Drop (Travoprost 0.004%) is a prostaglandin analog ophthalmic solution formulated to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. By enhancing uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor, Travatan effectively lowers IOP and helps protect the optic nerve from progressive glaucomatous damage. It is widely used as a first-line therapy due to its strong once-daily pressure-lowering effect and convenient nighttime dosing.

Indications & Uses

  • Open-Angle Glaucoma: Primary therapy for reducing elevated intraocular pressure.
  • Ocular Hypertension: For patients with high eye pressure at risk of optic nerve damage.
  • Adjunctive Therapy: Can be combined with beta-blockers (Timolol) or carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (Dorzolamide, Brinzolamide) when additional IOP control is required.
  • Long-Term Glaucoma Management: Suitable for chronic, ongoing therapy.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Potent IOP reduction through increased uveoscleral outflow.
  • Effect begins within 2–4 hours, with maximum reduction at 12 hours after dosing.
  • Once-daily evening dosing improves adherence.
  • Helps slow or prevent optic nerve damage and visual field loss when used consistently.
  • Well established in global glaucoma treatment guidelines.

Directions for Use

  • Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening.
  • Do not exceed one dose per day—overuse may decrease effectiveness.
  • Wash hands before use and avoid touching the dropper tip.
  • If using other ophthalmic medications, separate each product by at least 5 minutes.
  • Remove contact lenses before instillation; reinsert after 15 minutes.

Storage

  • Store at room temperature (below 25–30°C).
  • Keep away from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
  • Do not freeze.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed.
  • Discard any remaining solution 4 weeks after opening.

Possible Side Effects

Common: Mild redness, irritation, stinging, or dry eyes.
Eyelash Effects: Increased lash growth, darkening, or thickening (usually reversible after discontinuation).
Periocular Changes: Possible eyelid skin darkening or deepening of the upper eyelid sulcus.
Uncommon: Iris color darkening (more common in mixed-color irises).
Serious (Rare): Eye pain, vision change, swelling—seek immediate medical care.

FAQs

Travatan Eye Drop (Travoprost 0.004%) is used to lower elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It helps prevent optic nerve damage by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor.
Eye redness, mild irritation, increased eyelash growth, and possible darkening of the iris, eyelids, or skin around the eyes may occur. These changes are usually gradual.
Travoprost is a prostaglandin analog that increases uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor, effectively lowering intraocular pressure.
Instill one drop into the affected eye(s) once daily, preferably in the evening. Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
It is recommended for adults diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It should not be used by individuals allergic to prostaglandin analogs or those with active eye infections without medical supervision.
