Nailrox Nail Lacquer contains ciclopirox, a synthetic broad-spectrum antifungal agent with proven efficacy in both skin and nail fungal infections. Unlike many antifungals that only inhibit fungal growth, ciclopirox exerts multiple mechanisms of action, including altering fungal cell membrane permeability, chelating essential metal ions, and interfering with energy production in fungal cells. It is highly active against dermatophytes such as Trichophyton rubrum, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Microsporum species, as well as yeasts like Candida albicans and certain molds. The 8% nail lacquer formulation is FDA and PMDA approved as a topical treatment for onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) and is recognized as an original therapy for nail fungal clearance. In addition to nail infections, ciclopirox is available in other topical forms for conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, cutaneous candidiasis, and tinea infections, making it a versatile antifungal solution.
