Nailrox Nail Lacquer contains ciclopirox, a synthetic broad-spectrum antifungal agent with proven efficacy in both skin and nail fungal infections. Unlike many antifungals that only inhibit fungal growth, ciclopirox exerts multiple mechanisms of action, including altering fungal cell membrane permeability, chelating essential metal ions, and interfering with energy production in fungal cells. It is highly active against dermatophytes such as Trichophyton rubrum, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Microsporum species, as well as yeasts like Candida albicans and certain molds. The 8% nail lacquer formulation is FDA and PMDA approved as a topical treatment for onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) and is recognized as an original therapy for nail fungal clearance. In addition to nail infections, ciclopirox is available in other topical forms for conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, cutaneous candidiasis, and tinea infections, making it a versatile antifungal solution. Regular and prolonged use can improve nail integrity, reduce fungal load, and prevent recurrence, especially when combined with good hygiene and professional nail care.

Ciclopirox disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity by altering permeability and chelating polyvalent cations essential for enzyme function. It inhibits fungal cell respiratory processes, amino acid transport, and nucleic acid synthesis, ultimately leading to cell death. This multi-target approach reduces the likelihood of resistance development and enhances effectiveness against a broad range of fungi. In lacquer form, the drug penetrates the dense keratin structure of nails, delivering sustained antifungal concentrations directly to the site of infection.
Onychomycosis – Fingernail and Toenail (8% Nail Lacquer) → Adults and ≥12 yrs: Apply once daily at bedtime or at least 8 hours before washing. Cover the entire nail plate, nail bed, hyponychium, and 5 mm of surrounding skin. → Do not remove the lacquer daily; reapply over the previous layer and remove all layers with alcohol every 7 days. → Continue treatment for up to 48 weeks; improvement may take ~6 months. Seborrheic Dermatitis (0.77% Gel / 1% Shampoo) → Adults and ≥16 yrs: Gel – Apply to scalp twice daily for 4 weeks. Shampoo – Apply 5–10 mL to wet scalp, lather, leave for 3 minutes, rinse; repeat twice weekly for 4 weeks with at least 3 days between uses. Cutaneous Candidiasis (0.77% Cream or Lotion) → Adults and ≥10 yrs: Apply to affected and surrounding skin twice daily. Symptom relief usually within 1 week. Tinea Cruris (0.77% Cream or Lotion) → Adults and ≥10 yrs: Apply twice daily. Symptom relief usually within 1 week. Tinea Versicolor (0.77% Cream or Lotion) → Adults and ≥10 yrs: Apply twice daily. Symptom relief within 1 week; clearing usually in 2 weeks. Tinea Corporis (0.77% Cream or Lotion / Gel) → Adults and ≥10 yrs (cream/lotion) or ≥16 yrs (gel): Cream/Lotion – Apply twice daily. Gel – Apply twice daily after cleaning; treat for 4 weeks. Tinea Pedis (0.77% Cream or Lotion / Gel) → Adults and ≥10 yrs (cream/lotion) or ≥16 yrs (gel): Cream/Lotion – Apply twice daily. Gel – Apply twice daily after cleaning; treat for 4 weeks. General Instructions: → Maintain good nail and skin hygiene. Trim nails regularly and keep feet dry. → Avoid occlusive dressings unless advised. → Continue full course even if symptoms improve early to prevent recurrence.
Store below 25°C in a dry place away from direct light and heat. Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of reach of children.
