Product Description

Trfy 250 – 7 Tablets contains terbinafine, an allylamine antifungal with potent, primarily fungicidal activity against dermatophytes and select yeasts. By inhibiting squalene epoxidase, it disrupts ergosterol synthesis, causing toxic squalene accumulation and membrane dysfunction that leads to fungal cell death.

Terbinafine concentrates in keratinized tissues (skin, hair, nails), sustaining therapeutic levels even after therapy ends. Clinically, it is a first-line oral option for onychomycosis and moderate-to-severe tinea when topical therapy is inadequate.

In dermatology, it may be used selectively to reduce secondary fungal complications during post-acne recovery under medical supervision. Available through a trusted online pharmacy.

Indications & Uses

  • Antibiotics & Infections | Athlete’s foot, ringworm, candidiasis: Systemic management of tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea capitis, and onychomycosis—especially when infection is extensive or refractory to topicals.
  • Beauty & Skin Care | Post Acne Care: Occasional adjunct in patients with a history suggestive of seborrheic or fungal folliculitis contributing to “acne-like” flares.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Mechanism: Selective squalene epoxidase blockade → ergosterol depletion + squalene buildup → direct fungicidal effect.
  • Distribution: Keratinophilic, lipophilic distribution yields high levels in nails, hair, and skin, supporting durable clearance and lower relapse risk.
  • Clinical efficacy: Demonstrated efficacy as first-line oral therapy in onychomycosis and tinea capitis; useful in widespread tinea corporis, cruris, and pedis.

Directions for Use

  • Onychomycosis (fingernail): 250 mg orally once daily for 6 weeks.
  • Onychomycosis (toenail): 250 mg orally once daily for 12 weeks. Confirm mycologic diagnosis prior to therapy; assess liver function before and during treatment. Clinical improvement may take months due to nail growth.
  • Tinea capitis: Adults 250 mg once daily for ~6 weeks. Pediatrics (≥4 years):
  • <25 kg: 125 mg once daily
  • 25–35 kg: 187.5 mg once daily
  • ≥35 kg: 250 mg once daily
  • Alt. weight-based: ~5 mg/kg/day (per ranges provided by clinician).
  • Tinea corporis/cruris: 250 mg once daily for 2–4 weeks.
  • Tinea pedis: 250 mg once daily for 2–6 weeks.
  • General: Swallow whole with water, with or without food. Do not stop early even if symptoms improve. Monitor LFTs in prolonged courses or if risk factors for hepatotoxicity exist.

Storage

  • Storage condition: Store at room temperature (below 25 °C), protected from moisture and direct sunlight.
  • Packaging: Keep in original blister until use.
  • Safety: Keep out of reach of children.

Possible Side Effects

  • Common: GI upset, headache, taste disturbance, mild skin rash.
  • Rare but serious: hepatotoxicity, severe cutaneous reactions (e.g., SJS), blood dyscrasias. Seek immediate care if jaundice, dark urine, persistent nausea, or severe rash occurs.

FAQs

While fungal clearance occurs during treatment, visible improvement may take months due to slow nail regrowth.
Terbinafine is generally avoided in active or chronic liver disease. Liver function tests should be done before and during treatment.
Yes, it is highly effective for tinea pedis, especially in chronic or extensive cases unresponsive to topical therapy.
