KZ Cream 30g contains ketoconazole, a broad-spectrum imidazole antifungal agent designed for topical use. It works by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes, disrupting their integrity and leading to fungal death. While highly effective for superficial mycoses such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, cutaneous candidiasis, and tinea versicolor, ketoconazole also plays a key role in managing seborrheic dermatitis, including scalp involvement, by reducing Malassezia yeast populations and inflammation. Off-label, it is occasionally used to support skin recovery in post-acne care, particularly where fungal imbalance or seborrheic flares exacerbate irritation.

Ketoconazole inhibits fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14α-demethylase, blocking the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This results in altered membrane permeability, impaired cellular function, and eventual fungal death. The cream formulation ensures localized delivery with anti-inflammatory benefits, making it effective for both fungal clearance and symptomatic relief in skin conditions like seborrheic dermatitis.
For topical fungal infections (athlete’s foot, ringworm, candidiasis, tinea versicolor, seborrheic dermatitis): Apply a thin layer to the affected and surrounding area once or twice daily, as directed by a healthcare provider, continuing for several days after symptoms resolve to prevent recurrence. For seborrheic dermatitis: Apply to affected areas twice daily until symptoms improve, then reduce frequency for maintenance. For systemic fungal infections (oral ketoconazole use – only when other effective antifungals are unavailable or not tolerated): - Blastomycosis, Chromomycosis, Coccidioidomycosis, Histoplasmosis, Paracoccidioidomycosis: Adults – 200 mg once daily; may increase to 400 mg once daily if response is inadequate; treat for 6 months. Pediatrics ≥2 years – 3.3 to 6.6 mg/kg once daily for 6 months. Important note: Not effective for fungal meningitis due to poor CSF penetration. IDSA guidelines recommend amphotericin B or itraconazole as first-line options for blastomycosis and histoplasmosis. Ketoconazole should be reserved for cases where benefits outweigh potential hepatotoxicity risks. General guidance: Clean and dry the area before application. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, and open wounds. If a dose is missed, apply as soon as possible unless near the time for the next dose.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the cap tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Common: Mild skin irritation, redness, stinging, or itching at the site of application. Rare but serious: Allergic contact dermatitis, blistering, swelling.
