Loceryl Cream contains amorolfine, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent belonging to the morpholine derivative class. It works by inhibiting two key enzymes (delta-14 reductase and delta-7,8-isomerase) involved in the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. By disrupting ergosterol production, amorolfine compromises fungal cell membrane integrity, leading to altered permeability and eventual cell death. It is effective against dermatophytes, yeasts (including Candida species), and certain molds responsible for common superficial fungal infections. While amorolfine is widely known in nail lacquer form for onychomycosis, its cream formulation is especially suited for skin infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, and candidal intertrigo. Its localized application minimizes systemic absorption, making it safer for elderly patients or those with liver concerns, and suitable for long-term maintenance in chronic or recurrent fungal skin conditions.
- Beauty & Skin Care > Anti-Fungal Cream Used for the treatment of fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds. Particularly effective for tinea infections (tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis) and candidal skin infections. > Onychomycosis Support Although the cream is primarily for skin use, it can be used in combination with amorolfine nail lacquer to treat periungual skin involvement and support nail recovery. > Post-Treatment Maintenance Applied to previously infected sites to reduce recurrence risk, especially in patients prone to reinfection due to occupational or environmental exposure. > Preventive Use in High-Risk Individuals Used off-label for fungal infection prevention in immunocompromised patients or those with frequent exposure to communal wet environments.
Amorolfine inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, the primary sterol in fungal cell membranes, by blocking delta-14 reductase and delta-7,8-isomerase. This dual-enzyme blockade disrupts membrane structure and function, resulting in leakage of cellular components and cell death. It has fungicidal activity against dermatophytes and fungistatic to fungicidal activity against yeasts, depending on concentration and exposure time. The cream formulation penetrates the stratum corneum and remains active for prolonged periods, reducing the need for multiple daily applications.
Adults – Onychomycosis (when combined with lacquer) → Amorolfine 5% nail lacquer: Apply once or twice weekly to affected nails following these steps: 1. File the infected nail surface without injuring surrounding skin. 2. Clean the nail with an alcohol swab. 3. Apply lacquer evenly over the entire nail surface using the provided applicator. 4. Allow to dry for 3–5 minutes. 5. Clean applicator with alcohol swab after each use. → Duration: Fingernails – ~6 months; Toenails – 9–12 months, or until complete regrowth and clearance of infection. Adults – Cutaneous Fungal Infections → Apply a thin layer of amorolfine cream to the affected skin once or twice daily, covering both the lesion and surrounding healthy skin. → Continue treatment for 1–2 weeks after symptom resolution to prevent recurrence. General Instructions: → Avoid cosmetic nail varnish or artificial nails during nail treatment. → If cream is accidentally removed (e.g., after washing), reapply promptly. → Maintain good hygiene, keep the area dry, and change socks or underwear daily if treating foot or groin infections.
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep the tube or container tightly closed after each use. Keep out of reach of children.
Common: mild redness, itching, burning sensation at the application site Less common: skin dryness, flaking, or irritation Rare: allergic contact dermatitis or swelling—discontinue use and seek medical advice if severe reactions occur
