Arkamin H is a combination medication that contains clonidine 100mg and hydrochlorothiazide 120mg, designed to manage high blood pressure through dual-action mechanisms. Clonidine acts centrally by stimulating alpha-2 adrenergic receptors in the brainstem, which decreases sympathetic outflow and reduces vascular resistance. Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, lowers blood pressure by promoting sodium and water excretion through the kidneys. Usual Adult Dose for Hypertension: - Start: 1 tablet orally once or twice daily depending on patient’s blood pressure levels and clinical response - Maintenance: Adjust dose gradually based on blood pressure monitoring and tolerability - Maximum: Not to exceed 2 tablets twice daily unless under close supervision Comments: - Take preferably at the same times each day (morning and evening) - Monitor blood pressure and kidney function regularly during therapy - If one dose is missed, skip and take the next as scheduled; do not double dose - Abrupt withdrawal of clonidine may result in rebound hypertension; taper gradually under physician guidance - Ensure adequate hydration due to hydrochlorothiazide’s diuretic effect Use: Treatment of hypertension in patients requiring combination therapy; suitable when blood pressure is inadequately controlled with either agent alone.
