Distoside 600 contains 600mg of Praziquantel, a highly effective anthelmintic agent widely used in the treatment of trematode (flukes) and cestode (tapeworms) infections. Listed as a WHO essential medicine, it is considered indispensable in both clinical practice and mass deworming campaigns across endemic regions.
Praziquantel demonstrates rapid absorption, excellent oral bioavailability, and high cure rates against a broad spectrum of parasitic flatworms. Its mechanism of action involves increasing calcium ion permeability in parasite cell membranes, leading to paralysis, detachment, and death of the worms.
Distoside 600 remains a cornerstone therapy for conditions such as schistosomiasis, clonorchiasis, paragonimiasis, taeniasis, and neurocysticercosis, supporting global efforts in helminth control and eradication.
• Antiparasitics > Schistosomiasis
Praziquantel is the first-line treatment for all forms of schistosomiasis, including S. haematobium, S. mansoni, and S. japonicum. It induces muscle contraction and paralysis in adult worms, enabling elimination through host immune mechanisms.
• Antiparasitics > Fluke Infections
Highly effective against liver flukes (Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis spp.), lung flukes (Paragonimus spp.), and intestinal flukes. Recommended by the WHO as the standard therapy for trematodiasis in both adults and children.
• Antiparasitics > Tapeworm Infections
Effective against a broad spectrum of tapeworms, including Diphyllobothrium latum, Taenia saginata, Taenia solium, and Hymenolepis nana. A single oral dose is often sufficient, with high cure rates and minimal adverse effects.
• Antiparasitics > Neurocysticercosis
In combination with corticosteroids and/or albendazole, Praziquantel is used off-label to manage CNS infections caused by Taenia solium larvae. Requires close monitoring due to inflammatory reactions triggered by dying parasites.

Adults
• Schistosomiasis: 20 mg/kg orally three times in one day, or 40–60 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
• Liver Flukes: 25 mg/kg orally three times daily for 1–2 days.
• Intestinal Flukes: 75 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses for 1 day.
• Lung Flukes: 25 mg/kg orally three times daily for 2 days.
• Tapeworms: 5–10 mg/kg orally once.
• Dwarf Tapeworm (Hymenolepis nana): 25 mg/kg orally once.
• Neurocysticercosis: 50 mg/kg/day for 15 days.
Children (≥1 year)
• Dosing mirrors adult regimen, adjusted by body weight.
• Divide multiple daily doses every 4–6 hours.
• For cysticercosis or CNS involvement, treatment must be under medical supervision.
Store below 30°C in a dry, dark place.
Protect from moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
Common: headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, nausea, and fatigue.
Special note: in neurocysticercosis, corticosteroids are recommended to manage inflammation from dying parasites.
Rare: allergic reactions may occur.
