Product Description

Niclosig 500 – 100 Tablets contains niclosamide, a potent broad-spectrum anthelmintic primarily indicated for intestinal tapeworm infections. It inhibits oxidative phosphorylation in parasite mitochondria, disrupting ATP production and leading to parasite death. With minimal systemic absorption, niclosamide acts locally in the intestinal lumen, lowering the risk of systemic adverse effects.

It is active against Taenia saginata, Taenia solium, Diphyllobothrium latum, and Hymenolepis nana. Off-label investigations include urinary tract infection suppression, Wnt/β-catenin pathway modulation in oncology research, and early antiviral studies (e.g., COVID-19). Available via a trusted online pharmacy.

Indications & Uses

  • Antiparasitics | Anthelmintics: Treatment of intestinal cestode infections including taeniasis, diphyllobothriasis, and hymenolepiasis.
  • Antibiotics & Infections | Cystitis (off-label): Experimentally explored for antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects in urinary conditions.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Uncouples oxidative phosphorylation in tapeworm mitochondria, preventing ATP synthesis and causing parasite death.
  • Primarily luminal action leading to killing of adult worms with low systemic exposure.
  • Eggs and larvae may persist; hygiene measures and follow-up are recommended to prevent reinfection.

Directions for Use

  • Tapeworm Infections (Taenia saginata, T. solium, D. latum): Adults 2 g as a single dose (four 500 mg tablets) after a light meal; repeat after 7 days if needed.
  • Dwarf Tapeworm (H. nana): Day 1 – Adults 2 g single dose; then 1 g once daily for 6 more days; consider repeating the course after 7–14 days if required.
  • Administration: Chew or crush tablets thoroughly and swallow with a small amount of water. May be taken fasting; a light meal can reduce GI discomfort.
  • Pork Tapeworm (T. solium) note: A laxative 2 hours post-dose may help expel parasites and reduce egg migration risk.
  • Contraindications & Precautions: Hypersensitivity to niclosamide. Use in pregnancy/breastfeeding only if clearly indicated. No routine fasting/bowel prep required (except as above).
  • Missed Dose: Take as soon as remembered; if near the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double.

Storage

  • Storage condition: Store below 25 °C in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture.
  • Safety: Keep out of reach of children.

Possible Side Effects

  • Common: mild nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, dizziness.
  • Rare but serious: allergic skin reactions, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, signs of hypersensitivity. Seek medical attention if severe or persistent.

FAQs

Most patients pass the dead worm within 24–48 hours, though timing can vary depending on bowel habits.
No fasting is necessary, but a light meal before the dose can improve tolerance.
Yes, with weight-adjusted dosing under medical supervision; the safety profile is favorable due to minimal absorption.
Not for all tapeworm species, but it may be recommended for dwarf tapeworm infections or reinfection risk.
Generally safe, but inform your healthcare provider of all medications to avoid potential interactions.
