Clavam 375 is a generic combination antibiotic manufactured by Alkem Laboratories, containing Amoxicillin 250mg and Clavulanic Acid 125mg. This combination enhances the antibiotic efficacy of Amoxicillin by inhibiting bacterial resistance mechanisms. Amoxicillin belongs to the penicillin-class broad-spectrum antibiotics, effectively treating various bacterial infections, including respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, and skin & soft tissue infections. Clavam 375 works by combining the antibacterial activity of Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid’s ability to inhibit bacterial beta-lactamase enzymes. This enhances the effectiveness of Amoxicillin by preventing bacterial resistance. By binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), Amoxicillin disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis, causing bacterial death and preventing infection spread. This combination is particularly useful in treating beta-lactamase-producing bacteria that would otherwise resist Amoxicillin alone.
