Product Description

Xavitaz, Powder for Solution, combines ceftazidime, a third-generation cephalosporin, with avibactam, a novel non-β-lactam β-lactamase inhibitor. This dual-action therapy restores antibacterial activity against resistant Gram-negative organisms by blocking β-lactamase degradation and disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis.

It is particularly effective against carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing strains, multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species.

As a critical second-line or rescue therapy, Xavitaz is indispensable in treating severe systemic infections, sepsis, intraabdominal infections, and nosocomial pneumonia. Accessible via a reliable online pharmacy, it holds an important place in the Antibiotics & Infections category, often considered when alternatives like Zithromax, Vibramycin, or Novamox are insufficient.

Indications & Uses

  • Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE): Targeted therapy for serious CRE infections unresponsive to standard carbapenems.
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae: Active against resistant strains producing KPC enzymes.
  • Sepsis: Combination therapy option to reduce bacterial load and improve survival outcomes.
  • Systemic Infection: Broad application in ICU settings for complex, multidrug-resistant (MDR) infections.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Restores ceftazidime activity against resistant Gram-negative pathogens.
  • Active against ESBL and AmpC β-lactamase–producing organisms.
  • Reduces mortality rates in MDR Gram-negative sepsis and systemic infections.
  • Proven efficacy in complicated intra-abdominal, urinary, and respiratory infections.

Directions for Use

  • Intra-abdominal Infections: Adults 2.5 g IV every 8h for 5–14 days with metronidazole. Pediatrics (3–<6 months) 50 mg/kg IV every 8h; (6 months–<18 years) 62.5 mg/kg IV every 8h (max 2.5 g/dose).
  • Pyelonephritis / Complicated UTI: Adults 2.5 g IV every 8h for 7–14 days; pediatrics as above (without metronidazole).
  • Nosocomial Pneumonia: Adults 2.5 g IV every 8h for 7–14 days; pediatrics same as pyelonephritis.
  • Treatment duration guided by infection severity, pathogen susceptibility, and clinical response.

Storage

  • Store below 25 °C, protected from light and moisture. Keep vials in the original carton until use to maintain stability.
  • Use reconstituted solutions within the manufacturer-recommended stability timeframe under controlled conditions. Discard any solution that exceeds beyond-use dating or shows discoloration/particulate matter.
  • Do not freeze, and ensure all vials and prepared solutions are kept out of reach of children.

Possible Side Effects

  • Common: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, rash, and infusion-site reactions; generally mild to moderate and often resolve with continued therapy of Innomer (meropenem).
  • Moderate: elevated liver enzymes, anemia, or hypokalemia; monitor laboratory values including liver function and electrolytes during prolonged treatment.
  • Serious: hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylaxis, seizures (especially in patients with renal impairment or preexisting CNS disorders), and Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea. Immediate discontinuation and medical intervention are required in such cases.

FAQs

Cross-reactivity is possible; caution and allergy assessment are required before administration.
Yes, dosage must be reduced according to creatinine clearance levels to avoid toxicity.
It is often combined with other agents depending on pathogen susceptibility and infection severity.
It is ineffective against most Gram-positive bacteria and anaerobes; combination therapy may be required.
Many patients show signs of improvement within 48–72 hours, but full treatment duration must be completed.
