Nizonide 500 Tablets contains nitazoxanide, a synthetic nitrothiazolyl-salicylamide derivative with potent antiparasitic, antiviral, and broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties. Initially developed for the treatment of protozoal diarrheal illnesses such as giardiasis and cryptosporidiosis, it works by inhibiting the pyruvate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR) enzyme-dependent electron transfer reaction, essential to anaerobic metabolism in susceptible organisms. Beyond its primary indications, nitazoxanide has demonstrated off-label potential against trichomoniasis, certain helminthic infections, and bacterial cystitis, especially in cases involving resistant pathogens. Pediatric Dosage & Duration: - 1–3 years: 100 mg every 12 hours × 3 days - 4–11 years: 200 mg every 12 hours × 3 days - ≥12 years: Same as adult regimen Indication: Giardiasis Formulation: Oral tablet Adult Dosage & Duration: 500 mg orally every 12 hours for 3 days.
