ABD Plus - 100 Tablets contains albendazole and ivermectin, a combination therapy targeting both intestinal and extra-intestinal parasitic infections. Albendazole, a benzimidazole anthelmintic, disrupts parasite microtubule formation, impairing glucose uptake and leading to energy depletion. Ivermectin enhances efficacy by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels in nerve and muscle cells, causing paralysis and death of parasites. This dual mechanism is particularly effective for soil-transmitted helminths (STH) and lymphatic filariasis, and may also be used off-label for skin and soft tissue infections associated with parasitic or secondary bacterial causes.

Albendazole inhibits polymerization of parasite β-tubulin, preventing the formation of cytoplasmic microtubules essential for nutrient uptake and cell division. Ivermectin acts on glutamate-gated chloride channels, causing hyperpolarization, paralysis, and death of the parasite. This combination not only increases cure rates for single-species infections but also offers superior outcomes in mixed infections compared to monotherapy.
Indication: Soil-Transmitted Helminth (STH) Infections & Lymphatic Filariasis Adult Dosage & Regimens: - Mass Drug Administration (MDA): Albendazole 400 mg orally once daily + ivermectin (≈6 mg, adjusted for weight at 200 µg/kg) once daily for 3 consecutive days. - Single-dose protocols: Albendazole 400 mg + ivermectin 200 µg/kg as a single co-administered dose in endemic areas. - Refugee/migrant presumptive therapy: Same as MDA or single-dose, depending on prevalence and risk. Uses: - Hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus) - Roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides) - Whipworm (Trichuris trichiura) - Threadworm (Strongyloides stercoralis) - Lymphatic filariasis (Wuchereria bancrofti) Efficacy: - Combination therapy improves clearance rates for Trichuris infections compared to albendazole alone. - Superior efficacy for mixed STH infections in high-burden settings. - Reduces microfilarial density in lymphatic filariasis more effectively than monotherapy. Administration Instructions: - Take with or after a meal to enhance albendazole absorption. - Swallow tablets whole with water. - Dosing for ivermectin should be based on body weight; use a scale for accuracy in community programs. Contraindications & Precautions: - Hypersensitivity to albendazole, ivermectin, or formulation excipients. - Avoid in pregnancy (particularly first trimester) unless benefits outweigh risks; caution during breastfeeding. - Use with care in patients with significant liver disease. - In high microfilarial burden, monitor for Mazzotti-type reaction. Missed Dose: - Take as soon as remembered; skip if near next scheduled dose. Do not double-dose.
