Oflox Eye Drops contain ofloxacin 0.3% w/v, a fluoroquinolone antibacterial that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. By blocking DNA replication and transcription, it provides rapid bactericidal action against a wide range of ocular pathogens and is used both for active infections and peri-operative prophylaxis.
- ANTIBIOTICS & INFECTIONS > Eye Infections Used for bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcers, blepharitis, and dacryocystitis caused by susceptible organisms; also employed as prophylaxis around ophthalmic procedures to reduce postoperative infection risk. > Skin and Soft Tissue Infections (SSTIs) Other topical ofloxacin formulations may be considered for localized skin infections (e.g., impetigo, folliculitis, wound infections) where gram-negative coverage or fluoroquinolone activity is desired.
- Bactericidal inhibition of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, halting bacterial cell division. - Broad activity against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Haemophilus influenzae. - High ocular tissue penetration with minimal systemic absorption; suitable for targeted local therapy. - Reduces bacterial load quickly, improving symptoms such as redness, discharge, pain, and photophobia.
Indications: - Bacterial conjunctivitis - Bacterial corneal ulcers Adult Dosage: - Bacterial conjunctivitis: - Days 1–2: Instill 1–2 drops every 2–4 hours in the affected eye(s). - Days 3–7: Instill 1–2 drops 4 times daily. - Corneal ulcers: - Days 1–2: Instill 1–2 drops every 30 minutes while awake, plus 1 dose at approximately 4 and 6 hours after bedtime. - Days 3–7 to 9: Instill 1–2 drops every hour while awake. - Days 7–9 until completion: Instill 1–2 drops 4 times daily. Pediatric Dosage (≥1 year): - Bacterial conjunctivitis: - Days 1–2: Instill 1–2 drops every 2–4 hours. - Days 3–7: Instill 1–2 drops 4 times daily. - Corneal ulcers: - Follow the adult schedule, adjusted per clinician judgment. Administration Notes: - Remove contact lenses before dosing; reinsert after at least 15 minutes. - When using multiple ophthalmic products, separate administrations by at least 5 minutes. - For external ophthalmic use only; avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface.
- Store at 15–25°C, protected from light. - Keep tightly closed; discard if the solution becomes cloudy or discolored. - Keep out of reach of children.
- Common: Mild burning or stinging, transient blurred vision, ocular irritation or dryness. - Less common: Conjunctival hyperemia, photophobia, pruritus, eyelid edema. - Rare but serious: Hypersensitivity reactions; superinfection (including fungal) with prolonged use—seek medical advice if symptoms worsen.
