Product Description

Tiniba 500 Tablet contains tinidazole, a synthetic antimicrobial agent belonging to the nitroimidazole class. It exhibits potent activity against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by disrupting DNA synthesis within these organisms. Tinidazole is particularly effective for treating trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, amebiasis, and giardiasis, offering rapid symptom resolution with short-course or single-dose therapy. Compared to metronidazole, tinidazole offers a longer half-life, allowing for less frequent dosing and improved patient adherence. It is also used in the prophylaxis of postoperative infections, and in select cases, as part of combination regimens for Helicobacter pylori eradication.

Indications & Uses

- Antibiotics & Infections > Trichomoniasis Highly effective in the management of trichomoniasis in both men and women. A single oral dose of 2g often leads to complete eradication. May be used concurrently in partner therapy to prevent reinfection. > Bacterial Vaginosis Tinidazole is used to restore the vaginal microflora altered by anaerobic bacteria. Offers both 2-day and 5-day oral regimens depending on severity and recurrence history. > Abdominal Infection Used in the treatment of infections involving the lower gastrointestinal tract, peritoneum, and pelvis caused by anaerobic pathogens. Offers systemic action with good tissue penetration. > Systemic Infection Indicated for anaerobic bacteremia, abscesses, and hepatic infections. With its extended plasma half-life, tinidazole provides prolonged antimicrobial coverage in single daily doses. > Protozoal Intestinal Infections Provides rapid symptom control in cases of giardiasis and intestinal amebiasis. Effectively eliminates protozoa from the GI tract with short-duration therapy. > Hepatic Amebiasis Acts against Entamoeba histolytica in liver abscesses. Reduces abscess size and systemic inflammation when administered over 3 to 5 days. > Surgical Prophylaxis Given preoperatively to reduce the risk of post-surgical infections from anaerobic bacteria. Particularly useful in colorectal or gynecological surgeries. > H. pylori Eradication (Off-label) May be used as part of multi-drug regimens in the management of Helicobacter pylori-related peptic ulcer disease when other nitroimidazoles are not suitable.

Benefits & Effectiveness

Tinidazole exerts its antimicrobial effect by entering susceptible anaerobic cells and disrupting their DNA structure through the formation of cytotoxic radicals. This leads to rapid loss of cell function and eventual microbial death. Its prolonged half-life allows for once-daily dosing, simplifying complex regimens. Tinidazole shows excellent oral absorption, widespread tissue distribution, and strong protozoacidal activity, making it a preferred choice for both therapeutic and prophylactic use.
