Product Description

Azithral Eye Drop (Azithromycin 1%) is a macrolide antibiotic ophthalmic solution formulated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis and eyelid margin infections. With strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action, Azithral is especially effective in meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and blepharitis, conditions commonly associated with chronic redness, irritation, and ocular surface discomfort. Its prolonged tissue retention allows convenient twice-daily dosing, improving patient compliance and therapeutic outcomes.

Indications & Uses

  • Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Reduces redness, discharge, irritation, and microbial load.
  • Blepharitis / Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD): Improves eyelid margin inflammation and oily gland blockage.
  • Trachoma (Chlamydia trachomatis): Effective where macrolides are indicated.
  • Post-Procedural Prophylaxis: May be used under clinical guidance for anti-infective coverage.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic effective against gram-positive, gram-negative, and atypical bacteria.
  • Excellent penetration and long retention allow reduced dosing frequency.
  • Helps restore eyelid margin health and tear film stability in MGD/blepharitis patients.
  • Reduces discharge, burning, irritation, and foreign-body sensation.
  • Well tolerated in short-term therapy with minimal systemic absorption.

Directions for Use

  • Instill one drop into the affected eye(s) twice daily
(morning and evening) for the first 2 days,
then once daily for the next 5 days,
or exactly as prescribed by your ophthalmologist.

  • Wash hands before instillation and avoid touching the dropper tip.

  • Do not wear contact lenses during active infection or treatment.

  • If using multiple eye medications, separate each product by at least 5 minutes.

  • Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early.

Storage

  • Store at room temperature (below 25–30°C).
  • Protect from heat, direct sunlight, and moisture.
  • Keep tightly closed when not in use.
  • Do not freeze.
  • Discard any remaining solution 4 weeks after opening.

Possible Side Effects

Common: Mild burning/stinging, transient blurred vision, watery eyes.
Uncommon: Eye redness, sticky sensation, eyelid crusting (usually temporary).
Rare / Serious: Hypersensitivity, severe swelling, worsening infection—seek immediate medical care if these occur.
