Reference information will be available soon.
Mazetol 200 is a generic formulation of carbamazepine 200mg indicated for treating neurological, psychiatric, and pain-related disorders. It is known for its potent ability to stabilize overactive neural pathways, making it highly effective in epilepsy, mood disorders, and neuropathic pain syndromes. As a time-tested antiepileptic and mood stabilizer, Mazetol 200 is trusted for both monotherapy and adjunctive treatment settings, particularly where long-term control is required.
Epilepsy
Mazetol 200 is widely used for managing partial seizures and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. It suppresses excessive neuronal firing by stabilizing sodium channels, reducing seizure intensity and frequency.
Bipolar Disorder
Mazetol 200 is utilized as a first-line mood stabilizer in bipolar disorder, particularly in acute manic or hypomanic episodes. It is effective for patients who are intolerant to lithium or in need of long-term maintenance therapy.
Depression, Anxiety, PTSD
Mazetol 200 is occasionally prescribed off-label for patients with mood instability or PTSD. It can complement antidepressants by helping regulate emotional reactivity and impulsivity.
Neuropathic Pain
Mazetol 200 is also effective in the treatment of chronic nerve pain conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia and diabetic neuropathy. It works by modulating nerve signal transmission, reducing pain perception.
Carbamazepine works by inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels, which reduces synaptic transmission and abnormal repetitive neuronal firing. This leads to improved seizure control, mood regulation, and decreased pain sensitivity. It is particularly useful in patients with comorbid psychiatric and neurological conditions.

ER Form: Same total daily dose as IR, divided BID.
Trigeminal Neuralgia – Start at 100 mg BID (or 50 mg QID suspension). Increase up to 200 mg/day until pain is controlled. Maintenance: 400–800 mg/day; Max: 1200 mg/day. Reassess every 3 months for dose reduction.
Bipolar Disorder / Mania (ER Capsules) – Start at 200 mg BID. Titrate by 200 mg/day to optimal response. Max: 1600 mg/day.

Additional Considerations
Switching IR → ER: Use same total daily dose, divided BID. Monitor closely.
Suspension: Use same total dose but increase frequency (TID or QID).
Polytherapy: Adjust co-administered antiepileptics as needed.
Monitoring: Regularly assess plasma levels, liver enzymes, and CBC.
Avoid in absence seizures; may aggravate symptoms.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and sunlight. Keep tablets in their original blister packaging. Ensure the medication is stored out of reach of children.
Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, and double vision.
Serious adverse effects may include leukopenia, hepatic dysfunction, hyponatremia, and rare skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
