Product Description

Zen Retard 400 is a sustained-release antiepileptic formulation containing 400mg of carbamazepine. It is designed to provide stable plasma concentrations throughout the day, improving compliance and reducing dosing frequency. This formulation is particularly suitable for chronic neurological and psychiatric conditions requiring steady-state control.

Indications & Uses

  • Sleep & Mental Health > Epilepsy
Zen Retard 400 is widely used to treat partial seizures and generalized tonic-clonic seizures by reducing abnormal electrical discharges in the brain. Its extended-release mechanism ensures long-lasting efficacy and consistent therapeutic levels.

  • Sleep & Mental Health > Bipolar Disorder
Zen Retard 400 functions as a mood stabilizer, frequently prescribed in the acute and maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder. It helps prevent manic or hypomanic episodes and is often used when lithium is ineffective or poorly tolerated.

  • Sleep & Mental Health > Depression, Anxiety, PTSD
Though not a first-line agent, carbamazepine may be prescribed adjunctively in cases of treatment-resistant mood disorders, including bipolar depression and PTSD. It helps regulate mood lability and impulsive behavior.

  • Painkillers & Headache > Neuropathic Pain
Zen Retard 400 is effective for nerve-related pain such as trigeminal neuralgia and diabetic neuropathy. It reduces pain transmission by modulating sodium channels and stabilizing hyperexcited neurons.

Benefits & Effectiveness

Carbamazepine exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels, stabilizing overactive neural membranes, and reducing repetitive neuronal firing. This mechanism provides effective seizure control, supports mood regulation, and offers relief from neuropathic pain.
