Product Description

Indocap 25 Capsule contains indomethacin, a potent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that offers strong anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects. It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby blocking the production of prostaglandins responsible for pain and inflammation. Indomethacin is widely prescribed for inflammatory joint disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, and is especially effective in acute flares of gout. It is also used for painful musculoskeletal conditions including bursitis, tendinitis, and low back pain. In neonatal care, intravenous formulations of indomethacin are used off-label to induce closure of a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants. Due to its gastrointestinal toxicity profile, it is typically reserved for short-term use or cases requiring aggressive anti-inflammatory therapy.

Indications & Uses

- Painkillers & Headache > Musculoskeletal Pain Provides rapid pain relief in acute musculoskeletal injuries such as low back pain, shoulder bursitis, and tendonitis. Useful in patients requiring short-term high-intensity anti-inflammatory action. - Lifestyle-Related Diseases > Gout/Hyperuricemia First-line treatment for acute gouty arthritis flares. Reduces joint inflammation, swelling, and severe pain typically within hours of administration. > Rheumatoid Arthritis Relieves joint stiffness, swelling, and chronic pain associated with autoimmune joint inflammation. Suitable for long-term symptom control when used cautiously. > Ankylosing Spondylitis Improves spinal flexibility and reduces axial inflammation in spondyloarthropathies. Particularly effective in alleviating morning stiffness and inflammatory back pain. > Osteoarthritis Provides symptomatic relief in patients with degenerative joint disease, targeting pain and inflammation in weight-bearing joints such as the knees and hips. > Pediatric PDA (Off-label) Administered intravenously in preterm neonates to pharmacologically close a persistent ductus arteriosus, reducing the need for surgical intervention.

Benefits & Effectiveness

Indomethacin inhibits the COX enzymes, resulting in decreased synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. It is considered one of the most potent NSAIDs, with rapid onset of action and robust anti-inflammatory efficacy. While effective, its risk of gastrointestinal and central nervous system side effects is higher compared to other NSAIDs, requiring careful dose selection and monitoring. It demonstrates favorable response in acute gout attacks, inflammatory joint conditions, and pain due to soft tissue inflammation.
