Praziquin 600 contains Praziquantel 600mg per tablet, an oral antiparasitic treatment listed as a WHO essential medicine. It demonstrates potent efficacy against cestodes (tapeworms) and trematodes (flukes), making it a cornerstone therapy in parasitology.
Praziquantel is widely used in the management of schistosomiasis, clonorchiasis, and neurocysticercosis, with proven effectiveness in both mass deworming campaigns and individual clinical settings. Its mechanism involves increasing the permeability of parasite cell membranes to calcium ions, resulting in spastic paralysis, dislodgement, and subsequent death of the parasite.
Beyond its antiparasitic indications, praziquantel has also been explored in off-label contexts, including potential oncological adjunct therapy, where modulation of host–parasite interactions may support cancer research.
• Antiparasitics > Tapeworm Infections
Effective against broad tapeworm species including Taenia saginata, Taenia solium, Diphyllobothrium latum, and Hymenolepis nana. Used as a first-line treatment for intestinal cestode infections in both adults and children. Praziquantel disrupts calcium homeostasis in parasites, causing paralysis and disintegration.
• Antiparasitics > Fluke Infections
WHO-recommended agent for hepatic and intestinal trematode infections such as Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini, Fasciolopsis buski, and Paragonimus westermani. Highly effective in single or short-course dosing, with minimal resistance reported.
• Antiparasitics > Schistosomiasis
Essential treatment for Schistosoma species including S. haematobium, S. mansoni, and S. japonicum. Serves as the backbone of mass drug administration programs in endemic regions and is also used prophylactically in high-risk populations.
• Antiparasitics > CNS Parasitosis & Off-Label Oncology
Combined with Albendazole for the management of neurocysticercosis. Additionally, praziquantel has been investigated for potential apoptotic effects on hepatic cancer cells—an off-label application that is gaining attention in pharmacological research.
• Effective against tapeworms and flukes, disrupting calcium homeostasis and inducing parasite paralysis.
• Recognized as a first-line agent for schistosomiasis, widely used in endemic regions.
• Listed as a WHO essential medicine, central to global deworming initiatives.
• CNS-penetrant, making it effective in the treatment of neurocysticercosis when combined with other agents.
• Demonstrates off-label anticancer potential, with emerging research into its apoptotic effects on hepatic and other cancer cells.

General Notes
Divide multiple daily doses evenly every 4–6 hours.
Adjust regimen based on parasite species and clinical severity.
For neurocysticercosis or CNS involvement, follow specialist guidelines strictly.
May be taken with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Store below 30°C in a dry, airtight container.
Avoid exposure to direct light and humidity.
Common: dizziness, abdominal pain, fatigue, and nausea.
Rare but serious: hypersensitivity reactions and CNS-related symptoms (especially in neurocysticercosis).
Monitoring: recommended during high-dose or long-term therapy.
