Lametec 50 DT is a clinically proven antiepileptic and mood-stabilizing drug that contains lamotrigine. It is widely prescribed for epilepsy and bipolar disorder, acting by modulating neuronal excitability. By blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, Lametec 50 DT helps prevent abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which contributes to seizure control and mood stabilization.
- Sleep & Mental Health > Epilepsy Lamotrigine is used to manage partial-onset and generalized seizures. It helps regulate excessive electrical discharges in the brain and is effective as both monotherapy and adjunctive treatment. > Bipolar Disorder Often prescribed to delay depressive episodes in bipolar disorder, lamotrigine plays a key role in long-term mood stabilization with superior efficacy in depression prevention compared to mania. > Depression, Anxiety, PTSD Lamotrigine is employed off-label to help stabilize mood in chronic affective disorders, particularly in patients with poor tolerance to SSRIs or SNRIs. > ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Used in selective cases where ADHD coexists with epilepsy or mood instability, contributing to improved emotional control. > Improve Memory, Concentration and Brain Function Lamotrigine has been observed to enhance cognitive clarity, attention span, and executive function in some patients with neurological or seizure-related conditions.
Lametec 50 DT works by inhibiting voltage-sensitive sodium channels, which reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate. This action stabilizes the neural membrane potential, preventing seizure propagation and supporting mood equilibrium in bipolar disorder.
Adult Dose - Epilepsy (Adjunctive Therapy) • With valproate: 25 mg every other day (Week 1–2), then 25 mg daily (Week 3–4) → Maintenance: 100–200 mg/day • Without enzyme modifiers: 25 mg daily → 50 mg daily → Maintenance: 225–375 mg/day • With enzyme inducers only: 50 mg daily → 100 mg daily → Maintenance: 300–500 mg/day - Bipolar Disorder (IR Only) • With valproate: 25 mg every other day → 25 mg daily → 50 mg → Maintenance: 100 mg/day • Without enzyme modifiers: 25 mg → 50 mg → 100 mg → Maintenance: 200 mg/day • With enzyme inducers: 50 mg → 100 mg → 200 mg → 300 mg → Maintenance: up to 400 mg/day (Note: XR not approved for bipolar disorder) - Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (Adjunctive) • Same titration as epilepsy • Maintenance: 100–500 mg/day based on drug interactions Pediatric Dose – Epilepsy / Lennox-Gastaut - Age 2–12 years • With valproate: Start at 0.15 mg/kg/day → Increase to 1–5 mg/kg/day (Max: 200 mg) • No modifiers: Start at 0.3 mg/kg/day → Increase to 4.5–7.5 mg/kg/day (Max: 300 mg) • With inducers: Start at 0.6 mg/kg/day → Increase to 5–15 mg/kg/day (Max: 400 mg) - Age 13+ years (XR) • Follow adult XR protocols Monotherapy Conversion (≥16 years) • From inducers: Up-titrate lamotrigine to 500 mg/day → Taper AED over 4 weeks • From valproate: Reach 500 mg/day lamotrigine while tapering valproate in steps IR to XR Conversion • Direct conversion allowed • Monitor closely for breakthrough seizures
Store in a dry, cool place below 30°C. Avoid exposure to light and humidity. Keep out of reach of children. Do not refrigerate.
Common adverse effects include headache, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, somnolence, and insomnia. Rare but serious risks involve life-threatening skin rashes such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), especially during the titration phase.
