- Sleep & Mental Health > Epilepsy Lamotrigine is used to control partial-onset and generalized seizures by stabilizing abnormal electrical signals in the brain, making it a frontline antiepileptic agent. > Bipolar Disorder Lamotrigine helps prevent the recurrence of depressive episodes in bipolar disorder, especially effective in long-term mood stabilization for patients prone to depressive phases. > Depression, Anxiety, PTSD It is employed as an adjunct treatment to support mood regulation in chronic mood instability and has shown promise in cases resistant to standard antidepressants. > ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Used in selected cases where ADHD is associated with epilepsy or mood dysregulation, aiding in emotional regulation and focus. > Improve Memory, Concentration and Brain Function Some clinical studies have noted enhancements in cognitive clarity, memory, and attention among patients using lamotrigine for neurological stabilization.
Lamez 50 functions by blocking voltage-sensitive sodium channels, thus reducing the excessive release of excitatory neurotransmitters like glutamate and suppressing abnormal neuronal firing.
Adult Dose - Epilepsy (Adjunctive Therapy) • With valproate: 25 mg every other day (Week 1–2) → 25 mg daily (Week 3–4) → Maintain 100–200 mg/day • No enzyme inducers/inhibitors: 25 mg daily (Week 1–2) → 50 mg (Week 3–4) → Maintain 225–375 mg/day • Enzyme inducers only: 50 mg daily (Week 1–2) → 100 mg (Week 3–4) → Maintain 300–500 mg/day - Bipolar Disorder • With valproate: Start 25 mg every other day → Increase gradually → Maintain 100 mg/day • No inducers/inhibitors: Start 25 mg daily → Gradual titration → Maintain 200 mg/day • Enzyme inducers: Start 50 mg → Increase weekly → Maintain up to 400 mg/day - Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (Adjunctive) Same titration as epilepsy. Maintenance depends on co-medications: • With valproate: 100–200 mg/day • Without inducers/inhibitors: 225–375 mg/day • With enzyme inducers: 300–500 mg/day Pediatric Dose (Age 2–12) • With valproate: Start 0.15 mg/kg/day → 0.3 mg/kg/day → Maintain 1–5 mg/kg/day (Max 200 mg/day) • No inducers/inhibitors: 0.3 → 0.6 mg/kg/day → Maintain 4.5–7.5 mg/kg/day (Max 300 mg/day) • Enzyme inducers: 0.6 → 1.2 mg/kg/day → Maintain 5–15 mg/kg/day (Max 400 mg/day) Age 13+ years: Follow adult XR protocol Under 2 years: Not recommended Monotherapy (Adults 16+) • From enzyme inducers: Titrate lamotrigine to 500 mg/day, taper AEDs over 4 weeks • From valproate: Titrate to 200 mg/day, reduce valproate gradually, reach 500 mg lamotrigine/day IR to XR Conversion • Direct switch allowed. Monitor plasma levels and seizure control. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep tightly sealed and out of reach of children.
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, and rash. Severe rashes (e.g., Stevens-Johnson Syndrome) are rare but serious and require immediate discontinuation.
