It is especially considered for patients who cannot tolerate SSRIs or SNRIs. > ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) In cases where ADHD coexists with epilepsy or mood disorders, lamotrigine may be prescribed to aid emotional control, although off-label and under specific conditions. > Improve Memory, Concentration and Brain Function Some evidence supports improved attention span, cognitive clarity, and neurological focus, particularly in individuals with seizure-related cognitive impairment.
Lamosyn 50 functions by inhibiting voltage-sensitive sodium channels and reducing presynaptic glutamate release. This mechanism stabilizes hyperexcitable neurons, preventing seizure propagation and aiding in long-term mood stabilization in bipolar disorder.
Adult Dose - Epilepsy (Adjunctive Therapy) • With valproate: 25 mg every other day (Week 1–2) → 25 mg daily (Week 3–4) → Maintain 100–200 mg/day • No enzyme inducers/inhibitors: 25 mg daily → 50 mg daily → Maintain 225–375 mg/day • With enzyme inducers only: 50 mg daily → 100 mg daily → Maintain 300–500 mg/day - Bipolar Disorder (IR Only) • With valproate: 25 mg every other day → 25 mg daily → 50 mg → Maintain 100 mg/day • No enzyme modifiers: 25 mg daily → 50 mg → 100 mg → Maintain 200 mg/day • With inducers: 50 mg → 100 mg → 200 mg → 300 mg → Maintain up to 400 mg/day (Note: XR not approved for bipolar treatment) - Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (Adjunctive) Follow epilepsy adjunctive dosing above Pediatric Dose (Epilepsy & Lennox-Gastaut, IR Only) - Age 2–12 years • With valproate: Start at 0.15 mg/kg/day → Increase to 1–5 mg/kg/day (Max 200 mg) • No enzyme modifiers: Start at 0.3 mg/kg/day → Increase to 4.5–7.5 mg/kg/day (Max 300 mg) • With inducers: Start at 0.6 mg/kg/day → Increase to 5–15 mg/kg/day (Max 400 mg) - Age 13+ years (XR) Follow adult XR protocol Monotherapy Conversion - From enzyme-inducing AEDs: Titrate lamotrigine to 500 mg/day; taper AED over 4 weeks - From valproate: Titrate lamotrigine to 500 mg/day; taper valproate over 3 steps IR to XR Conversion - Direct switch permitted; monitor seizure control - Dose adjustments may be needed for patients on enzyme inducers
