Reference information will be available soon.
Amprist 5 is a 5 mg tablet containing Ulipristal Acetate, a selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM) indicated for the treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids in premenopausal women. It works by modulating progesterone activity at the uterine level, resulting in fibroid shrinkage, control of abnormal bleeding, and relief from pressure-related symptoms. While 30 mg Ulipristal is used for emergency contraception, the 5 mg dose in Amprist 5 is specifically intended for fibroid management and is not suitable for contraceptive purposes.
AntiCancer Drugs > Uterine Fibroids
Amprist 5 is prescribed to manage moderate to severe uterine fibroid symptoms such as menorrhagia, pelvic pain, and anemia. It serves as a non-invasive alternative to surgery and is often used before fibroid resection or as long-term intermittent therapy. Its ability to preserve estrogen levels while controlling progesterone-dependent growth makes it a preferred medical option for patients intolerant to GnRH analogs.
PILLS & CONTRACEPTION > Emergency Contraception (Higher Dose Only)
While Ulipristal is recognized for use in emergency contraception at a 30 mg dose, the 5 mg formulation in Amprist 5 is not intended for this indication. For pregnancy prevention following unprotected sex, a single 30 mg tablet should be used within 120 hours. The 5 mg dose does not deliver the ovulation-inhibiting potency required for contraception.
• Dosage & Administration
Uterine Fibroids: 5 mg orally once daily, at the same time each day. Administer with or without food. Treatment duration: up to 3 months per cycle. One full menstrual cycle break between treatment courses is required. Multiple intermittent courses may be administered based on clinical evaluation. Baseline and periodic liver function monitoring is mandatory due to rare hepatic risk.
Emergency Contraception (30 mg Dose Only): 30 mg orally as soon as possible within 120 hours after unprotected sex. If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of administration, a repeat dose may be necessary. May be taken at any point in the menstrual cycle. Not for routine contraceptive use or daily administration.
• Clinical Considerations
Rule out pregnancy prior to initiating each treatment course. Monitor for the return of menses following treatment cessation. Recommend non-hormonal contraception during and shortly after treatment. Perform pelvic ultrasound to assess fibroid response after each cycle. Caution in hepatic impairment or history of liver disorders.
