Product Description

Relugonat 120 is an oral tablet containing 120 mg of Relugolix, a GnRH receptor antagonist indicated for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. This non-peptide oral formulation rapidly suppresses testosterone production without the initial hormone flare commonly associated with GnRH agonists. Relugonat offers a convenient once-daily dosing option and has demonstrated favorable outcomes in both hormone-sensitive and castration-resistant prostate cancer. Its oral administration eliminates the need for injection-related procedures and improves patient adherence.

Indications & Uses

  • AntiCancer Drugs > Prostate Cancer
Relugonat 120 is used for the treatment of adult men with advanced prostate cancer, including nonmetastatic and metastatic stages. It is particularly beneficial for patients transitioning from or initiating androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). By blocking GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, Relugolix suppresses the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), leading to rapid and sustained reduction in serum testosterone—a key driver in prostate cancer progression.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Competitive GnRH receptor antagonism reduces LH and FSH secretion
  • Rapid suppression of testosterone to castrate levels, often within days
  • No initial testosterone surge, avoiding tumor flare and complications like bone pain or urinary obstruction
  • Demonstrated favorable cardiovascular safety profile, supporting long-term use in prostate cancer management

Directions for Use

• Dosage & Administration
Prostate Cancer (Adults): Loading Dose is 360 mg orally once on Day 1. Maintenance Dose is 120 mg orally once daily from Day 2 onward. Take at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole; do not chew or crush. Continued daily use is required to maintain therapeutic testosterone suppression.

• Important Notes
Prior to initiation, confirm prostate cancer diagnosis and discuss treatment goals with a healthcare provider. Monitor testosterone levels periodically to ensure effective suppression. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered on the same day—do not double up the next day. Therapy may be continued indefinitely or until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs.

Storage

  • Store Relugonat 120 in its original packaging at room temperature, below 30°C. Protect from moisture, direct sunlight, and heat.
  • Do not refrigerate. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ensure proper disposal of expired or unused tablets according to local regulations.

Possible Side Effects

  • Common: hot flushes, fatigue, diarrhea, joint or muscle pain, constipation
  • Long-term: reduced bone mineral density, metabolic changes such as altered cholesterol or blood sugar levels
  • Hormonal effects: decreased libido, erectile dysfunction from testosterone suppression
  • Comparative benefit: lower cardiovascular risk than injectable therapies, but monitoring is advised in patients with heart disease history
  • Rare but serious: liver enzyme elevation, anemia

FAQs

Relugonat offers oral administration, rapid testosterone suppression without flare, and improved cardiovascular safety compared to traditional GnRH agonists.
No. Continuous daily therapy is necessary to maintain low testosterone levels and control disease progression. Stopping without medical advice can lead to tumor regrowth.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day. If you miss an entire day, resume your regular schedule the next day. Do not double the dose.
Treatment is typically long-term and may continue until disease progression or intolerable side effects occur. Your doctor will evaluate the duration based on your condition.
Yes. It is indicated for both castration-sensitive and castration-resistant stages of advanced prostate cancer.
