Product Description

Caludec 50 contains bicalutamide, a non-steroidal antiandrogen widely used in combination with LHRH analogs for the treatment of prostate cancer. It selectively inhibits androgen receptors in prostate cancer cells, blocking the stimulatory effects of testosterone without reducing circulating hormone levels. This allows effective disease control while preserving aspects of hormonal balance and sexual function. Caludec 50 plays an essential role in both early-stage and advanced androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) regimens.

Indications & Uses

  • AntiCancer Drugs > Locally Advanced Prostate Cancer
    Caludec 50 is indicated for use with LHRH analogs or surgical castration in patients with locally advanced prostate cancer. By directly targeting androgen receptors, it provides effective androgen blockade while maintaining physiological testosterone levels, benefiting sexual health and overall quality of life.
  • AntiCancer Drugs > Metastatic Prostate Cancer
    In Stage D2 metastatic prostate cancer, Caludec 50 is used with LHRH analogs as part of combined androgen blockade (CAB), enhancing symptom control and more effectively reducing PSA levels compared to monotherapy.

Directions for Use

  • If a dose is missed, skip and resume at the next scheduled time; do not double dose

  • Continue therapy long-term as part of ADT protocol or until disease progression

Storage

  • Store at room temperature below 25°C in a dry place

  • Keep tablets in original blister pack, away from moisture and direct sunlight

  • Do not use expired or damaged tablets

Possible Side Effects

  • Common: breast tenderness, hot flashes, gynecomastia, fatigue

  • Less common: liver enzyme elevation, gastrointestinal discomfort

  • Rare: interstitial lung disease, photosensitivity, PSA flare on withdrawal

  • Liver function monitoring advised during prolonged therapy

FAQs

No, unlike GnRH analogs or orchiectomy, bicalutamide does not lower testosterone levels. It blocks androgen receptors, allowing testosterone to remain in circulation while preventing its action in cancer cells.
It is generally not recommended as monotherapy for prostate cancer. Caludec 50 is most effective when used in combination with an LHRH analog or surgical castration.
