Bdron 500 is a high-dose oral formulation of abiraterone acetate designed for advanced prostate cancer management. It selectively inhibits CYP17, a key enzyme in androgen biosynthesis, thereby reducing testosterone levels from all sources, including the testes, adrenal glands, and the tumor microenvironment. This profound suppression of androgenic activity plays a critical role in delaying disease progression and extending survival in both castration-resistant and castration-sensitive prostate cancer.
AntiCancer Drugs > Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (mCRPC)
Bdron 500 is indicated for patients with mCRPC who continue to progress despite surgical or medical castration. When used in combination with corticosteroids, it helps suppress tumor growth by shutting down systemic and intratumoral androgen production.
> Metastatic Castration-Sensitive Prostate Cancer (mCSPC)
This product is also used in the frontline treatment of mCSPC in high-risk patients. It is co-administered with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), offering an effective alternative or addition to docetaxel chemotherapy.
> Biochemical Relapse or Non-Metastatic CRPC
In selected patients with biochemical recurrence (rising PSA without radiographic metastasis), early intervention with abiraterone acetate may delay progression. This use is considered off-label and remains under investigation.
Bdron 500 inhibits CYP17 to reduce androgen production from all physiological and tumor-related sources. It enhances androgen suppression beyond conventional ADT, reduces PSA levels, and prolongs both progression-free and overall survival. The drug can be safely integrated into multi-modality strategies, including ADT and chemotherapy.
For metastatic CRPC, the usual adult dose is 500 mg orally once daily (micronized formulation), taken on an empty stomach, in combination with methylprednisolone 4 mg orally twice daily.
For metastatic high-risk CSPC, the recommended dose is 500 mg orally once daily, combined with methylprednisolone 4 mg orally once daily.
All patients should also receive a GnRH analog or have undergone bilateral orchiectomy. The medication must not be taken with food, as this significantly increases systemic exposure and risk of toxicity.
Store at a temperature below 25°C in a dry, well-ventilated area. Protect from light and moisture, and keep the container tightly closed. The product must be kept out of reach of children. Do not use if the seal is broken or the medication is past the expiration date.
Common adverse reactions include fatigue, hypertension, fluid retention, and joint pain. Laboratory abnormalities may include elevated liver enzymes and hypokalemia. Endocrine-related effects such as adrenal insufficiency can occur due to steroid suppression. Regular monitoring of liver function, blood pressure, and serum potassium is strongly recommended during therapy.
