Ulitas 5 is a generic 5 mg Ulipristal Acetate tablet intended for the medical treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids in premenopausal women. As a selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM), it reduces fibroid size, controls excessive menstrual bleeding, and alleviates pressure-related symptoms without causing significant estrogen deficiency. While Ulipristal is used at higher doses for emergency contraception, the 5 mg formulation in Ulitas 5 is exclusively for fibroid management.
AntiCancer Drugs > Uterine Fibroids (Non-surgical or Pre-surgical Therapy)
Ulitas 5 is prescribed for women experiencing moderate to severe symptoms of uterine fibroids, including heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and anemia. It is particularly effective for patients preparing for fibroid surgery or those seeking an alternative to invasive procedures. The drug acts by regulating progesterone receptors in fibroid tissues, resulting in size reduction and symptomatic improvement.
PILLS & CONTRACEPTION > Emergency Contraception (Higher Dose Only)
While Ulipristal is approved for emergency contraception at a 30 mg dose, the 5 mg formulation in Ulitas is not suitable for this purpose. The emergency dose delays ovulation, reducing the chance of pregnancy after unprotected intercourse. Routine contraceptive use is not recommended for any form of Ulipristal.
Uterine Fibroids: 5 mg orally once daily at the same time each day. Administer with or without food. One treatment cycle lasts up to 3 months. A drug-free interval (one full menstrual cycle) is required before starting another course. Treatment may be repeated depending on clinical response and physician evaluation. Baseline and periodic liver function tests are mandatory.
Emergency Contraception (Only for 30 mg formulation): 30 mg orally as soon as possible within 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected intercourse. If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of dosing, a repeat dose may be considered. The medication can be taken at any time during the menstrual cycle. Not to be used regularly as a contraceptive substitute.
• Clinical Notes
Evaluate baseline uterine size and fibroid volume with ultrasound. Amenorrhea is common during treatment and typically resolves after stopping therapy. Use non-hormonal contraception during and for a short period after treatment. Not indicated during pregnancy; rule out pregnancy before starting each cycle.
