Ulipstall 5 is a generic formulation containing 5 mg of Ulipristal Acetate, a selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM) indicated for the medical management of uterine fibroids in premenopausal women. It helps reduce fibroid volume, control heavy menstrual bleeding, and improve anemia, particularly in women preparing for surgery or requiring intermittent non-invasive treatment. While the 30 mg version of Ulipristal is used for emergency contraception, the 5 mg dose in Ulipstall is not intended for contraceptive purposes.
AntiCancer Drugs > Uterine Fibroids (Pre-operative or Intermittent Treatment)
Ulipristal 5 mg is prescribed for short-term treatment of moderate to severe uterine fibroid symptoms, such as heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, and pressure effects. It is often used before surgery to shrink fibroids or as a repeated intermittent therapy for women who prefer non-surgical management. By modulating progesterone activity in the uterus, it promotes fibroid shrinkage while preserving estrogen levels to minimize hypoestrogenic effects.
PILLS & CONTRACEPTION > Emergency Contraception (Higher Dose Only)
Although Ulipristal Acetate at 30 mg is approved for emergency contraception up to 5 days after unprotected sex, the 5 mg dose found in Ulipstall is not used for this indication. The higher dose delays ovulation and reduces the likelihood of fertilization or implantation, but it is not a replacement for regular contraceptive methods.
Uterine Fibroids: 5 mg orally once daily, with or without food. Treatment duration: up to 3 months per course. A drug-free interval (typically one menstruation cycle) is required between courses. Maximum use is generally limited to two courses unless supervised by a specialist. Liver function should be monitored before, during, and after each treatment cycle.
Emergency Contraception (Note: 30 mg dose only): 30 mg orally within 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected intercourse. If vomiting occurs within 3 hours, re-dose may be necessary. Not for routine contraceptive use. Effectiveness is higher the earlier it is taken.
• Clinical Notes
Baseline ultrasound may be useful to evaluate fibroid size before and after therapy. Amenorrhea during treatment is expected and reversible. Women should use non-hormonal contraception during and after treatment. Not to be used during pregnancy; exclude pregnancy before starting.
