Levepsy 1000 contains levetiracetam 1000mg, a long-acting antiepileptic drug formulated to manage a wide spectrum of seizures. As a broad-spectrum anticonvulsant, it is commonly used in both monotherapy and adjunctive therapy for epilepsy. Its safety profile and stable efficacy make it especially useful in chronic treatment plans requiring consistent plasma concentration.
- Sleep & Mental Health > Epilepsy Levepsy 1000 is indicated for the treatment of partial onset seizures, myoclonic seizures in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures. It provides effective seizure control in adult and pediatric patients, and is often included in long-term epilepsy management. > Depression, Anxiety, PTSD In patients with epilepsy, levetiracetam may provide additional mood-stabilizing benefits, potentially alleviating associated emotional instability such as anxiety and depression. > Schizophrenia Although not officially approved, some case studies report off-label use of levetiracetam for emotional dysregulation and cognitive support in schizophrenia, suggesting possible secondary benefits. > ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) When epilepsy coexists with ADHD, levetiracetam may aid in attention span improvement and impulse control stabilization, especially in patients unresponsive to traditional psychostimulant treatments.
Levetiracetam binds to synaptic vesicle protein SV2A, which is believed to regulate neurotransmitter release. By modulating synaptic transmission, it reduces neuronal excitability and stabilizes electrical activity across the brain, effectively preventing seizure propagation without affecting normal cognitive function.
Usual Adult Dose for Epilepsy (Extended-Release): - Initial dose: 1000 mg orally once daily - Titrate: Increase in increments of 1000 mg every 2 weeks based on efficacy and tolerability - Maintenance dose: 1000 to 3000 mg orally once daily - Maximum dose: 3000 mg/day Usual Adult Dose for Seizures (Extended-Release): - Initial dose: 1000 mg orally once daily - Titrate: Increase by 1000 mg at 2-week intervals if needed - Maintenance dose: 1000 to 3000 mg/day - Note: Effectiveness of doses >3000 mg/day is not established Usual Pediatric Dose for Epilepsy: 1 month to <6 months (Immediate-Release): - Initial: 7 mg/kg twice daily, increase by 7 mg/kg every 2 weeks - Max: 21 mg/kg twice daily 6 months to <4 years: - Initial: 10 mg/kg twice daily, increase by 10 mg/kg every 2 weeks - Max: 25 mg/kg twice daily 4 to <16 years: - Initial: 10 mg/kg twice daily, increase by 10 mg/kg every 2 weeks - Max: 30 mg/kg twice daily Alternatively by weight: - 20–40 kg: Start with 250 mg twice daily → Max: 750 mg twice daily - >40 kg: Start with 500 mg twice daily → Max: 1500 mg twice daily ≥16 years (Adult dosing applies): - 500 mg twice daily, titrate by 500 mg every 2 weeks → Max: 1500 mg twice daily Extended-Release (≥12 years): - Initial: 1000 mg once daily - Titrate: Increase by 1000 mg every 2 weeks - Maintenance: 1000–3000 mg once daily - Max: 3000 mg/day Myoclonic Seizures (≥12 years): - Start: 500 mg twice daily → Increase by 500 mg every 2 weeks - Max: 3000 mg/day Primary Generalized Tonic-Clonic Seizures: 6 to <16 years: - Start: 10 mg/kg twice daily → Max: 30 mg/kg twice daily ≥16 years: - Start: 500 mg twice daily → Max: 1500 mg twice daily
Store Levepsy 1000 tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep tightly sealed and out of reach of children. Avoid high humidity environments to preserve tablet integrity.
Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, irritability, and headache. Less frequent but serious reactions include mood changes such as agitation, depression, or suicidal thoughts. Pediatric patients may experience increased emotional instability. Liver function and behavioral status should be monitored periodically during prolonged treatment.
