Encorate 300 is a gastro-resistant tablet formulation containing sodium valproate 300mg, widely used for managing various types of epilepsy and mood disorders. It helps stabilize abnormal brain activity by increasing GABA levels and is commonly prescribed as a long-term therapy for both seizure control and mood stabilization.

It is effective in treating multiple seizure types, including complex partial and generalized seizures. > Bipolar Disorder Frequently used as a mood stabilizer, sodium valproate is effective in managing acute manic episodes and preventing recurrence in patients with bipolar disorder. > Depression, Anxiety, PTSD Although not a first-line treatment, sodium valproate may offer secondary benefits for anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms, especially when associated with bipolar disorder.
Sodium valproate works by enhancing GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) activity, an inhibitory neurotransmitter that calms overactive brain signals. It helps restore neural balance, reduce excitability, and prevent abnormal electrical discharges that cause seizures or manic episodes.
Adult Dosing – Epilepsy - Initial: 10–15 mg/kg/day orally - Titration: Increase by 5–10 mg/kg/week as needed - Max: 60 mg/kg/day - Notes: Doses above 250 mg/day should be split into 2–3 daily administrations Pediatric Dosing (≥10 years) – Epilepsy - Initial: 10–15 mg/kg/day - Titrate weekly by 5–10 mg/kg - Max: 60 mg/kg/day - Notes: Divide doses if over 250 mg/day Conversion to Monotherapy - Begin valproate per above dosing - Reduce other antiepileptic drugs by ~25% every 2 weeks IV Formulation - Same dose and frequency as oral - Infuse over 60 minutes at ≤20 mg/min - Limit use to ≤14 days and convert to oral ASAP Clinical Considerations - Most patients respond below 60 mg/kg/day - Therapeutic range: 50–100 mcg/mL - Monitor liver function and serum levels if control is insufficient
