Unlike stimulant medications, this formulation works by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine, thereby supporting cognitive control and executive function without the risk of dependency. Atomoxet 10 is suitable for both children and adults and is especially beneficial for patients who do not respond well to traditional stimulant-based therapies like methylphenidate or amphetamines. It offers sustained symptom control with a once-daily dosing regimen, making it an effective option for long-term ADHD management.

By modulating norepinephrine levels in the brain, it improves focus, decreases restlessness, and enhances overall executive function.
- As a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI), atomoxetine enhances the availability of norepinephrine in the prefrontal cortex, the brain area responsible for attention, impulse control, and working memory. - Its non-stimulant nature minimizes the risk of abuse or dependency, making it a preferred option for patients with a history of substance misuse. - It has a slower onset than stimulant drugs but offers long-acting, steady relief from symptoms, especially with consistent use over weeks. - Effective for both pediatric and adult ADHD treatment, including patients with coexisting conditions such as anxiety or sleep disorders.
- Adults (over 70 kg): - Initial dose: 40 mg/day - Maintenance dose: 80 mg/day (after minimum 3 days at the initial dose) - Maximum dose: 100 mg/day (after 2–4 weeks if needed) - Pediatrics (under 70 kg): - Initial dose: 0.5 mg/kg/day - Maintenance dose: 1.2 mg/kg/day - Maximum dose: 1.4 mg/kg/day or 100 mg/day (whichever is lower) - Atomoxet 10 should be taken once daily in the morning, or divided into morning and late afternoon doses. - Patients who are poor CYP2D6 metabolizers or taking CYP2D6 inhibitors may require dose adjustments. - Do not stop medication abruptly; follow tapering instructions from your healthcare provider if discontinuing.
- Store Atomoxet 10 in a dry place at room temperature (15–25°C), away from moisture, light, and heat. - Keep out of reach of children and pets. - Do not use if the packaging is damaged or the expiration date has passed.
- Common: Decreased appetite, dry mouth, insomnia, dizziness, nausea, fatigue. - Moderate: Mood swings, constipation, increased heart rate, sweating. - Serious: Suicidal thoughts (especially in children/adolescents), liver toxicity, severe allergic reactions, chest pain. - Patients should report any behavioral changes, irritability, or signs of liver dysfunction (e.g., yellowing of eyes/skin) immediately.
