Risdone 4 is a high-strength atypical antipsychotic that contains risperidone, primarily used to manage serious psychiatric disorders. It is commonly prescribed when lower doses of risperidone prove insufficient in managing symptoms. The 4mg dosage is particularly suited for maintenance therapy in adults with schizophrenia, acute manic episodes, or behavioral dysregulation associated with autism.

Risdone 4 works by antagonizing dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in the brain. This dual mechanism of action helps regulate neurotransmitter levels, leading to improvement in both positive and negative symptoms of psychiatric disorders.
Adult Dosing: 1. Schizophrenia – Oral Initial: 2 mg/day Titration: +1–2 mg/day at ≥24-hour intervals Maintenance: 2–8 mg/day Max: 16 mg/day Notes: 1–2 doses/day; >12 mg/day increases risk of side effects without added benefit 2. Schizophrenia – Long-acting IM Initial: 25 mg IM every 2 weeks Titration: 37.5 or 50 mg at ≥4-week intervals if needed Max: 50 mg every 2 weeks Notes: Continue oral risperidone for 3 weeks after first injection 3. Bipolar Disorder – Oral Initial: 2–3 mg/day Titration: +1 mg/day at ≥24-hour intervals Max: 6 mg/day Notes: Administered in 1–2 daily doses 4. Bipolar Disorder – Long-acting IM Same as schizophrenia IM Notes: Can be used with lithium or valproate Geriatric Dosing: 1.
