Asprito 5 is a low-dose generic aripiprazole medication, an atypical antipsychotic that effectively manages a range of psychiatric conditions by balancing dopamine and serotonin receptor activity in the brain. This mechanism helps to reduce psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions, stabilize mood in bipolar disorder, and serve as adjunctive therapy in major depressive disorder with inadequate response to standard treatments.
- Sleep & Mental Health > Schizophrenia Aripiprazole is widely prescribed for schizophrenia, targeting symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thoughts by modulating neurotransmitter systems to improve cognitive and emotional stability. > Bipolar Disorder Used for managing manic and depressive episodes of bipolar disorder, it aids in mood stabilization and reduces the intensity and frequency of mood swings. > Depression, Anxiety, PTSD Acts as adjunct therapy in major depressive disorder, enhancing outcomes when SSRI or SNRI monotherapy is insufficient. > Autism Helps in reducing irritability, aggression, and hyperactivity in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, improving behavioral challenges. > Tourette Syndrome Employed adjunctively for controlling motor and vocal tics associated with Tourette syndrome, improving patient quality of life.
Aripiprazole functions as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and antagonist at 5-HT2A receptors. This dual action restores neurotransmitter balance, effectively reducing psychotic symptoms and mood instability while minimizing typical antipsychotic side effects like sedation and weight gain.
Adult Dosing: - Schizophrenia: Oral immediate-release (IR) tablets start at 10–15 mg daily; usual maintenance dose 10–15 mg; max 30 mg daily. Extended-release intramuscular (IM) injections begin with 400 mg IM plus oral 10–20 mg daily for 14 days, followed by monthly maintenance doses of 300–400 mg IM. - Bipolar Disorder: Oral IR monotherapy starts at 15 mg daily; max 30 mg. When adjunctive to lithium or valproate, start 10–15 mg daily; max 30 mg. - Agitated State: IM injection initial dose 9.75 mg; maintenance 5.25–15 mg; max 30 mg/day. Oral therapy should replace injections as soon as possible. - Depression (Adjunctive): Start 2–5 mg daily, increasing by ≤5 mg weekly; maintenance 2–15 mg; max 15 mg. Pediatric Dosing: - Schizophrenia (ages 13–17): Start 2 mg daily, titrate to 5 mg after 2 days, then 10 mg after another 2 days; max 30 mg. - Bipolar Disorder (ages 10–17): Same titration schedule; target 10 mg; max 30 mg. - Autism (ages 6–17): Start 2 mg daily, increase to 5 mg, then 10 or 15 mg if needed; maintenance 5–15 mg; max 15 mg. - Tourette’s Syndrome (ages 6–18): - <50 kg: Start 2 mg, titrate to 5 mg; max 10 mg. - ≥50 kg: Start 2 mg, titrate to 5 mg, then 10 mg by day 8; max 20 mg. General Notes: - Oral tablets and solution are interchangeable mg-to-mg up to 25 mg (30 mg tablets correspond to 25 mg oral solution). - Dose increases are usually spaced 1–2 weeks to achieve steady-state plasma levels. - Extended-release injections require initial oral supplementation and tolerability confirmation before switching entirely to injections. - Maintenance doses should be periodically reassessed for efficacy and tolerability. - Avoid administering both types of extended-release formulations into the same muscle on the same day.
Store Asprito 5 tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct light and moisture. Keep medication in its original packaging, out of reach of children and pets.
Common side effects include headache, nausea, insomnia, dizziness, and anxiety. Weight gain, metabolic changes, and extrapyramidal symptoms can occur but tend to be less severe than with typical antipsychotics. Rare adverse effects such as neuroleptic malignant syndrome or tardive dyskinesia require urgent medical attention.
