Triquilar is a combined oral contraceptive containing Ethinyl Estradiol and Levonorgestrel, a low-dose estrogen-progestin formulation designed for effective prevention of pregnancy. It works by inhibiting ovulation, altering cervical mucus to block sperm entry, and stabilizing the endometrium to prevent implantation. Beyond contraception, it offers cycle regularization, reduction in dysmenorrhea, and improvement in acne symptoms, making it a multifunctional hormonal therapy suitable for both adolescents and adults. Its lower hormone content enhances tolerability and minimizes side effects, especially in first-time users or individuals sensitive to hormonal fluctuations.

Ethinyl Estradiol is a synthetic estrogen that suppresses FSH and stabilizes the endometrium, while Levonorgestrel is a potent progestin that inhibits LH surge and ovulation. Together, they provide a dual mechanism for pregnancy prevention and hormonal balance. The formulation also reduces endometrial proliferation and alters cervical mucus, further enhancing contraceptive efficacy.
1. Indication: - Indicated for the prevention of pregnancy in adult and adolescent females post-menarche 2. Oral Tablet Dosage: - Take 1 tablet orally once daily at the same time each day - Follow the sequence as directed on the blister pack - Can begin either: - On the first day of menstruation (Day 1 Start), or - On the first Sunday after menstruation begins (Sunday Start) - Important: Maintain 24-hour intervals between doses for maximum efficacy 3. Transdermal Patch Dosage (if applicable to patient): - Apply 1 patch per week for 3 weeks (Weeks 1–3) - Week 4 is patch-free to allow for withdrawal bleeding - Repeat cycle from Week 5 4. Special Considerations: - Initial patch should be applied within 24 hours of menstruation onset - Transdermal systems are not recommended for women with BMI ≥30 kg/m² due to reduced efficacy and increased VTE risk - Women with BMI between 25–30 kg/m² should be closely monitored for efficacy and side effects
Store at or below 25°C in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep tablets in original blister packaging until use. Keep out of reach of children and dispose of any expired tablets properly.
Common side effects include nausea, breast tenderness, mild headache, bloating, and mood changes. Serious but rare adverse effects include increased risk of thromboembolism, particularly in smokers over 35 or those with elevated BMI. Irregular spotting or breakthrough bleeding may occur in the initial months of use. Report any signs of leg pain, shortness of breath, or visual disturbances immediately.
