Admenta 5 is a generic formulation of memantine 5mg, a non-competitive NMDA receptor antagonist widely used in the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. By regulating the activity of glutamate—a neurotransmitter involved in learning and memory—Admenta 5 helps to protect neurons from excitotoxicity and supports cognitive stability in neurodegenerative conditions. Unlike acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, memantine acts through a different mechanism that is especially effective in the later stages of dementia, offering complementary benefits when used in combination therapy. Admenta 5 is clinically proven to delay cognitive decline, improve daily living activities, and reduce agitation and confusion in patients with advanced Alzheimer’s. It is also used in other forms of dementia, where it may help alleviate behavioral symptoms and enhance mental clarity, particularly in cases where disorientation, poor attention, and memory loss dominate.

Memantine works by selectively blocking NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptors, which are excessively activated in Alzheimer’s disease due to abnormal levels of glutamate. By modulating this glutamatergic activity, memantine helps prevent calcium overload in neurons, thus protecting against further neurodegeneration. This neuroprotective action allows patients with advanced dementia to maintain memory, attention span, and orientation. It is non-addictive, suitable for long-term use, and often used together with donepezil to enhance treatment response.
The recommended starting dose of memantine hydrochloride is 5 mg once daily. → Increase in 5 mg increments to: - 10 mg/day (5 mg twice daily) - 15 mg/day (5 mg and 10 mg separately) - 20 mg/day (10 mg twice daily) Minimum interval between dose increases: 1 week Memantine can be taken with or without food. If a single dose is missed, do not double the next one—take the next dose as scheduled. If doses are missed for several days, restart at a lower dose and retitrate cautiously. Renal Impairment: → Target dose: 5 mg twice daily for patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance 5–29 mL/min) Hepatic Impairment: → Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Recommended storage temperature: below 25°C. Keep tightly sealed and out of reach of children.
Common side effects: dizziness, headache, confusion, constipation, fatigue Less common: hallucinations, hypertension, shortness of breath, liver enzyme elevation Seek immediate medical attention in case of severe neurological or cardiovascular symptoms.
