Product Description

Endace 40 is an oral generic formulation of megestrol acetate 40mg, a synthetic progestin with strong anti-estrogenic properties. It is primarily indicated in hormone-sensitive cancers, including advanced breast cancer and endometrial cancer, where it works by inhibiting estrogen-driven tumor growth.

Beyond oncology, megestrol acetate is widely used in the management of cachexia and severe anorexia associated with cancer or HIV/AIDS. Its appetite-stimulating effect supports weight gain and improves nutritional status in debilitated patients.

Because of this dual action—tumor growth suppression and appetite stimulation—Endace 40 holds an important role as a palliative therapy across multiple oncological and wasting-related conditions.

Indications & Uses

  • AntiCancer Drugs > Hormone-Responsive Breast Cancer
Used for palliative management of metastatic or recurrent hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Often prescribed when patients show resistance to other anti-estrogen agents such as tamoxifen.

  • AntiCancer Drugs > Endometrial Cancer
Indicated for advanced or inoperable endometrial carcinoma, particularly in elderly patients unfit for surgery. Functions by suppressing estrogen-driven tumor growth.

  • AntiCancer Drugs > Cancer Cachexia & Anorexia
Employed to stimulate appetite and promote weight gain in cancer patients suffering from muscle wasting or poor oral intake. Helps mitigate the catabolic metabolic effects of malignancy.

  • AntiCancer Drugs > HIV/AIDS-Related Wasting Syndrome
Approved for the treatment of significant weight loss in HIV/AIDS patients. Enhances caloric intake and supports weight recovery in those with progressive wasting symptoms.

Benefits & Effectiveness

Megestrol acetate acts as a potent synthetic progestin, exerting its therapeutic effects through both hormonal modulation and metabolic regulation.

  • In hormone-responsive cancers, it functions as an anti-estrogenic agent, antagonizing estrogen receptors and suppressing estrogen-dependent tumor proliferation.

  • In cachexia and anorexia, it promotes appetite stimulation, supports positive energy balance, and facilitates weight gain in debilitated patients.

The drug is non-cytotoxic, generally well tolerated for long-term palliative use, and does not carry a risk of addiction, as it is not classified as a narcotic.

Directions for Use

  • For Hormone-Responsive Breast Cancer (Palliative):
    → 40 mg orally 4 times daily
→ Minimum trial period: 2 months to evaluate efficacy

→ Evaluate for reversible causes of anorexia before initiating
→ Not for preventative use in weight loss

  • Administration:
