ABD 400 is a generic formulation of albendazole 400mg, a broad-spectrum anthelmintic agent widely used in the treatment of parasitic worm infestations. It works by inhibiting the polymerization of tubulin into microtubules, thereby disrupting essential functions within the parasite.
- Antiparasitics > Intestinal Parasites Effective for the treatment of nematode infections such as ascariasis, pinworm, whipworm, and hookworm by impairing energy metabolism and inducing parasite death. > Neurocysticercosis Primary therapy for brain infections caused by Taenia solium larvae, especially in endemic regions. > Hydatid Disease Essential in managing echinococcosis caused by Echinococcus granulosus, characterized by cyst development in the liver and lungs. > Hookworm, Pinworm, Tapeworm Infections Albendazole 400mg provides broad-spectrum efficacy against various helminths affecting the gastrointestinal tract. - Diseases/Symptoms > Off-label Cancer Cell Suppression (Experimental) Investigated for anti-tumor properties through microtubule disruption in liver, lung, brain, and ovarian cancers. Shows potential synergy with chemotherapy in resistant tumors (research use only).
Albendazole binds to β-tubulin and inhibits microtubule synthesis in intestinal cells of parasites, leading to decreased glucose uptake and glycogen depletion, ultimately causing death of the organism. It exhibits larvicidal and ovicidal properties.
[Adult Dosing] - Hydatid Disease / Neurocysticercosis: <60 kg: 15 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses (max 800 mg/day) ≥60 kg: 400 mg BID Duration: Hydatid – 28-day cycle ×3 (14-day rest between cycles), Neurocysticercosis – 8–30 days - Cutaneous Larva Migrans: 400 mg daily × 3–7 days (or 400 mg BID × 3–5 days) - Ascariasis / Hookworm / Trichostrongylosis / Enterocolitis: 400 mg single dose - Pinworm: 400 mg single dose, repeat in 2 weeks - Filariasis: 400 mg BID × 10 days - Visceral Larva Migrans: 400 mg BID × 5–20 days - Strongyloidiasis: 400 mg BID × 7 days - Trichinosis: 400 mg BID × 8–14 days - Whipworm: 400 mg once daily × 3 days - Capillariasis: 400 mg daily × 10 days - Gnathostomiasis: 400 mg BID × 21 days - Liver Fluke: 10 mg/kg/day × 7 days - Echinococcosis (long-term): 400 mg BID × 1–6 months - Loiasis: 200 mg BID × 21 days - Cysticercosis: 400 mg BID × 8–30 days (repeat/surgery+steroids as needed) - Microsporidiosis: 400 mg BID × 21+ days (esp.
