Product Description

Flonida 5% Cream is a topical antineoplastic agent containing 5% w/w fluorouracil, a pyrimidine analog that inhibits thymidylate synthase, thereby disrupting DNA synthesis and inducing apoptosis in rapidly dividing dysplastic or neoplastic skin cells. It is primarily used in the treatment of actinic keratosis, superficial basal cell carcinoma, and Bowen’s disease, offering a nonsurgical, skin-preserving alternative. Its efficacy is rooted in its ability to cause a controlled inflammatory response, leading to lesion necrosis followed by skin reepithelialization. Due to its high concentration, it is specifically indicated for more aggressive or deeply embedded lesions.

Indications & Uses

  • AntiCancer Drugs > Actinic Keratosis
Indicated for the topical treatment of multiple precancerous keratinocyte lesions due to cumulative sun exposure. The 5% strength provides rapid cytotoxic action and lesion eradication through local inflammation and regeneration.

  • Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma
Approved for treating low-risk, non-invasive basal cell carcinoma in patients who are not candidates for surgery. The 5% formulation penetrates deeper layers, aiding complete lesion resolution when used consistently.

  • Bowen’s Disease
Recommended for intraepidermal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC in situ) as an alternative to surgical excision. It acts selectively on abnormal epithelial cells and prevents tumor progression.

  • Off-label Dermatologic Use
May be used under dermatologic supervision for viral warts, keloid modulation, and HPV-related cutaneous conditions in refractory cases, though not officially indicated.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Inhibits thymidylate synthase → blocks DNA replication in atypical and malignant keratinocytes
  • Induces localized inflammation, erosion, and cell death, followed by reepithelialization
  • Promotes full lesion clearance while preserving normal dermal tissue integrity
  • Especially suited for multiple or difficult-to-excise skin lesions on sun-exposed areas

Directions for Use

  • Actinic Keratosis
Apply 5% cream twice daily to affected areas in a thin, even layer
Duration: 2 to 4 weeks, depending on response and skin tolerance
Post-treatment healing may require 1–2 months
Sequence: Erythema → vesicles → crusting → healing

  • Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma
Apply 5% cream twice daily in sufficient quantity to fully cover lesion
Duration: Typically 3 to 6 weeks, extendable up to 12 weeks for full response
Only 5% concentration is recommended for this indication

Application Instructions:

  • Clean and dry the area thoroughly; apply 10 minutes after washing

  • Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucosal areas

  • Wash hands after each application

  • Do not cover treated area with occlusive dressings unless directed by a physician

  • Biopsy any lesion not responding to therapy

Storage

  • Storage Conditions
Store at temperatures below 25°C. Keep container tightly closed and protect from light and moisture.

  • Restrictions
    Do not refrigerate or freeze.

It provides deeper penetration and stronger cytotoxic effect, making it ideal for more resistant or invasive lesions.
Local irritation, redness, crusting, and peeling are normal and indicate the drug is working. Healing occurs after treatment ends.
Yes, but with caution. Avoid sensitive areas like the eyes, nostrils, and lips unless specifically directed by a dermatologist.
