Product Description

Intalfa 3 MIU Injection contains Interferon Alfa-2B, a recombinant cytokine with broad immunomodulatory, antiviral, and antiproliferative properties. It is administered via injection for various cancers and viral infections. Interferon Alfa-2B enhances the immune response against abnormal or infected cells by stimulating cytotoxic T-cell activity, inhibiting viral replication, and regulating oncogene expression.

Indications & Uses

  • AntiCancer Drugs > Skin Cancer (Malignant Melanoma)
Used as adjuvant therapy after surgery in high-risk melanoma patients to prevent recurrence. It modulates immune responses and slows disease progression through cytokine activation.

  • Blood Cancer (Hairy Cell Leukemia, Follicular Lymphoma)
Used as first-line or second-line treatment in Hairy Cell Leukemia, and post-chemotherapy maintenance in Follicular Lymphoma to enhance hematologic response and prolong remission.

  • Kidney Cancer (Renal Cell Carcinoma)
Interferon Alfa-2B may be employed in selected cases of advanced RCC to stimulate immune-mediated tumor suppression.

  • Others (Kaposi's Sarcoma, Conjunctival MALT Lymphoma, Angioblastoma)
Effective in AIDS-related Kaposi's Sarcoma and off-label applications such as conjunctival lymphomas and angioblastoma, based on immunostimulatory activity.

  • DISEASES/SYMPTOMS > Chronic Hepatitis B and C
Approved for adult and pediatric patients with chronic viral hepatitis. When combined with ribavirin, it significantly improves sustained virologic response (SVR), particularly in genotype 1.

  • Condylomata Acuminata (Genital Warts)
Given intralesionally, it promotes local antiviral immunity and lesion clearance.

  • Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura
Shown to increase platelet counts in children by enhancing T-cell function and suppressing autoantibody production.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Acts via immune modulation, direct antiviral effects, and inhibition of cell proliferation
  • Enhances antigen presentation and induces apoptosis in malignant cells
  • Suppresses viral replication in hepatocytes
  • Broad therapeutic applications due to cytokine-mediated stimulation of host defense mechanisms

Directions for Use

  • Hairy Cell Leukemia: 2 million IU/m² SC or IM, 3 times/week for up to 6 months. Use SC if platelets <50,000/mm³.

  • Malignant Melanoma: Induction 20 million IU/m²/day IV, 5 days/week for 4 weeks; then maintenance 10 million IU/m² SC, 3 times/week for 48 weeks.

  • Follicular Lymphoma: 5 million IU SC, 3 times/week up to 18 months, after CHOP chemotherapy.

  • Kaposi's Sarcoma: 30 million IU/m² SC or IM, 3 times/week until response or progression (up to 16 weeks).

  • Hepatitis C (adults): 3 million IU SC or IM, 3 times/week, 24–48 weeks with ribavirin or up to 96 weeks alone.

  • Hepatitis B (adults): 5 million IU daily or 10 million IU 3 times/week, SC or IM for 16 weeks.

  • Genital Warts: 1 million IU intralesionally per wart (up to 5 lesions), 3 times/week for 3 weeks; may repeat after 12–16 weeks.

  • Pediatric Hepatitis C (≥3 yrs): 3 million IU/m² SC, 3 times/week; 48 weeks (genotype 1), 24 weeks (genotypes 2/3).

  • Pediatric Hepatitis B (≥1 yr): Start at 3 million IU/m² SC, increase to 6 million IU/m², 3 times/week for 16–24 weeks.

  • MALT Lymphoma: 1 million IU intralesionally, 3 times/week for 12 doses (off-label).

  • Angioblastoma (≥4 months): 3 million IU/m² SC daily (case report basis).

  • Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (≥4 yrs): 3 million IU/m² SC, 3 times/week for 4–12 weeks.
