Product Description

Intalfa 5 MIU Injection contains Interferon Alfa-2B, a synthetic cytokine with immunomodulatory, antiviral, and antiproliferative properties. It activates macrophages, increases natural killer cell activity, and enhances antigen presentation by dendritic cells. These actions make it effective in treating certain cancers, chronic viral infections, and select immune-mediated conditions. This 5 million IU formulation supports more intensive dosing regimens required for hematologic malignancies and specific solid tumors.

Indications & Uses

  • AntiCancer Drugs > Skin Cancer (Malignant Melanoma)
Utilized as adjuvant immunotherapy after surgical excision in high-risk melanoma patients. It reduces recurrence risk by stimulating immune recognition and destruction of residual cancer cells.

  • Blood Cancer (Hairy Cell Leukemia, Follicular Lymphoma)
A key agent in first-line or maintenance therapy. Enhances hematopoietic recovery and induces durable remissions by inhibiting malignant lymphocyte proliferation.

  • Kidney Cancer (Renal Cell Carcinoma)
Used off-label in metastatic RCC where immunotherapy is warranted, particularly in patients unsuitable for targeted agents.

  • Others (Kaposi's Sarcoma, Angioblastoma, Conjunctival MALT Lymphoma)
Has shown effectiveness in Kaposi’s Sarcoma and rare tumors by downregulating angiogenesis and tumor proliferation.

  • DISEASES/SYMPTOMS > Chronic Hepatitis B and C
Serves as a core treatment—monotherapy or in combination with ribavirin. Effective in reducing viral load and liver inflammation.

  • Condylomata Acuminata (Genital Warts)
Used intralesionally to accelerate immune-mediated clearance of viral warts.

  • Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura
Shown to raise platelet counts in autoimmune thrombocytopenia by modulating T-cell activity and suppressing antibody production.

Benefits & Effectiveness

  • Binds to cell surface receptors and activates the JAK-STAT pathway
  • Induces expression of interferon-stimulated genes that inhibit viral replication
  • Modulates immune responses and triggers apoptosis in malignant cells
  • Effective across viral, oncologic, and immune-mediated disorders due to broad biological activity

Directions for Use

  • Hairy Cell Leukemia: 2 million IU/m² SC or IM, three times per week, up to 6 months. Prefer SC if platelets <50,000/mm³.

  • Malignant Melanoma: Induction 20 million IU/m²/day IV, 5 days/week for 4 weeks; maintenance 10 million IU/m² SC, 3 times/week for 48 weeks.

  • Follicular Lymphoma: 5 million IU SC, 3 times/week for up to 18 months post-chemotherapy (CHOP).

  • Kaposi's Sarcoma (AIDS): 30 million IU/m² SC/IM, 3 times/week, continue until response or up to 16 weeks.

  • Hepatitis C (adults): 3 million IU SC/IM, 3 times/week; 24–48 weeks with ribavirin, up to 96 weeks alone.

  • Hepatitis B (adults): 5 million IU daily or 10 million IU 3 times/week, SC/IM for 16 weeks.

  • Genital Warts: 1 million IU intralesionally per lesion (max 5), 3 times/week for 3 weeks; repeat after 12–16 weeks if needed.

  • Pediatric Hepatitis C (≥3 yrs): 3 million IU/m² SC, 3 times/week; genotype 1: 48 weeks, genotypes 2/3: 24 weeks, with ribavirin.

  • Pediatric Hepatitis B (≥1 yr): Start 3 million IU/m² SC, 3 times/week (Week 1); escalate to 6 million IU/m² (max 10 million), continue 16–24 weeks.

  • Conjunctival MALT Lymphoma (off-label): 1 million IU intralesionally, 3 times/week for 12 doses.

  • Angioblastoma (≥4 months): 3 million IU/m² SC daily (case-report based).

  • Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (≥4 yrs): 3 million IU/m² SC, 3 times/week for 4–12 weeks.
