Bdpoma 1 is a generic formulation of pomalidomide (1 mg), an immunomodulatory drug (IMiD) indicated for the treatment of hematologic malignancies. It is primarily prescribed for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) in patients who have failed prior therapies, including lenalidomide and proteasome inhibitors.
Pomalidomide exerts its anti-myeloma effects through multiple mechanisms, including immune modulation, anti-angiogenesis, and direct anti-proliferative activity. It is typically used in combination with dexamethasone and has demonstrated clinical benefit in high-risk and heavily pretreated patient populations.
AntiCancer Drugs > Relapsed or Refractory Multiple Myeloma
Bdpoma 1 is used in combination with dexamethasone for patients with multiple myeloma who have received at least two prior treatments, including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor, and have subsequently experienced disease progression. It offers extended progression-free survival in third-line and later treatment settings.
> Triple-Class Refractory Multiple Myeloma
Bdpoma 1 serves as a therapy for patients who are refractory to all three major myeloma drug classes—IMiDs, proteasome inhibitors (PIs), and anti-CD38 antibodies. Ongoing studies support its use in combination with monoclonal antibodies such as daratumumab or carfilzomib to improve outcomes in highly resistant cases.
> Kaposi’s Sarcoma (AIDS-related and non-HIV-associated)
Bdpoma 1 is approved for patients with Kaposi’s sarcoma who have failed HAART in AIDS-related disease, as well as for HIV-negative patients. Its strong anti-angiogenic properties help suppress tumor proliferation and reduce lesion formation.
Pomalidomide is a third-generation immunomodulatory drug (IMiD) that exerts its antitumor effects through multiple pathways. It enhances T-cell and natural killer (NK) cell-mediated cytotoxicity, inhibits angiogenesis, and downregulates pro-inflammatory cytokines. This broad-spectrum mechanism of action provides significant therapeutic benefit in resistant multiple myeloma and other hematologic malignancies, especially in patients who no longer respond to standard therapies.
For multiple myeloma, the usual adult dose is 4 mg orally once daily on Days 1 through 21 of each 28-day cycle. It must always be administered in combination with low-dose dexamethasone, and treatment should continue until disease progression or the onset of unacceptable toxicity.
For Kaposi’s sarcoma, the recommended adult dose is 5 mg orally once daily on Days 1 through 21 of each 28-day cycle. Therapy should be continued until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. In HIV-positive patients, HAART must be maintained concurrently with pomalidomide.
Additional Instructions:
Pomalidomide is a teratogenic agent, and pregnancy must be strictly avoided. Prophylactic anticoagulation is advised for patients with increased thrombotic risk. Routine monitoring of blood counts, as well as liver and kidney function tests, is required during therapy.
Store below 25°C in a dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep in original packaging until use. Handle with care as this medication can cause birth defects if misused.
Common adverse effects include neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, fatigue, nausea, and constipation. Other reported effects are peripheral neuropathy, upper respiratory tract infections, and thromboembolic events. Strict monitoring is essential during treatment.
