Atorlip 20 is a generic version of atorvastatin 20mg, a widely used lipid-lowering medication that belongs to the statin class (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors). It is indicated for the treatment of hyperlipidemia and prevention of cardiovascular events. The 20mg dose is considered a moderate- to high-intensity statin regimen, ideal for patients who require significant LDL-C reduction or who are at high risk for cardiovascular complications. It is also a preferred option in patients with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, or a strong family history of early cardiovascular disease.

Atorvastatin 20mg inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis. It enhances the clearance of LDL from the bloodstream by increasing the expression of LDL receptors. In addition to its lipid-lowering effect, it reduces CRP levels, suppresses vascular inflammation, and improves arterial compliance. These pleiotropic effects make it highly effective in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
General Hyperlipidemia / HeFH / Type III Dyslipidemia / Hypertriglyceridemia: - Starting dose: 10–20 mg once daily - Maintenance dose: 10–80 mg once daily - Consider initiating at 40 mg/day in patients requiring >45% LDL-C reduction - Must be combined with a lipid-lowering diet and lifestyle changes Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH): - Adult dose: 10–80 mg once daily - Pediatric (≥10 years): 10–80 mg once daily - May be used in conjunction with LDL apheresis where available Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HeFH): - Adults: 10–80 mg once daily - Children (≥10 years): 10–20 mg once daily - Lipid levels should be monitored and dosage adjusted every 4–6 weeks Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (Primary & Secondary): - Starting dose: 10–20 mg once daily - Maintenance dose: 10–80 mg once daily - Demonstrated to reduce the risk of MI, stroke, angina, and revascularization - Especially useful in patients with T2DM or metabolic syndrome
