Atorlip 5 is a generic formulation of atorvastatin 5mg, a statin-class medication used for the management of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk reduction. It belongs to the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor family, effectively lowering LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, while mildly increasing HDL cholesterol. The 5mg dose is ideal for patients initiating statin therapy or those requiring mild to moderate lipid correction with lower risk of side effects. It is also suitable for elderly individuals and those with multiple comorbidities.
- Lifestyle-related Diseases > Hyperlipidemia Indicated for primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and elevated triglycerides. It supports improvement of lipid profiles in both general and familial cases, including Type III dyslipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia. > Cardiovascular Diseases Used in both primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and revascularization. Particularly beneficial in patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or metabolic syndrome. > Cerebral Infarction & Myocardial Infarction Atorvastatin improves endothelial function, reduces vascular inflammation, and stabilizes plaques. This reduces the risk of ischemic stroke and acute coronary syndromes in high-risk patients.
Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver. This inhibition results in upregulation of LDL receptors on hepatocytes and enhanced clearance of LDL-C. It also provides anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antithrombotic benefits, reducing levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and improving arterial stiffness. These pleiotropic effects contribute significantly to its role in preventing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
General Hyperlipidemia / HeFH / Type III Dyslipidemia / Hypertriglyceridemia: → Starting dose: 10–20 mg once daily → Maintenance dose: 10–80 mg once daily → High LDL-C reduction (>45%): consider initiating at 40 mg/day → Must be combined with a cholesterol-lowering diet Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH): → Adults: 10–80 mg once daily → Pediatric (≥10 years): 10–80 mg once daily → Use with or without LDL apheresis Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HeFH): → Adults: 10–80 mg once daily → Children (≥10 years): 10–20 mg once daily → Lipid profile should be monitored every 4–6 weeks Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (Primary & Secondary): → Starting dose: 10–20 mg once daily → Maintenance dose: 10–80 mg once daily → Reduces the risk of MI, stroke, unstable angina, and need for coronary revascularization → Especially beneficial in T2DM patients and individuals with multiple cardiovascular risk factors
