Tonact 5 is a generic formulation of atorvastatin 5mg, a widely prescribed HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to manage cholesterol disorders and reduce cardiovascular risk. It lowers LDL-C, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, while modestly increasing HDL-C. The 5mg dose is appropriate for mild hyperlipidemia, statin-naïve patients, or those requiring cautious titration due to comorbidities or age. It also plays a preventive role in patients with or without established cardiovascular disease.

Atorvastatin acts by competitively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, leading to upregulation of LDL receptors on hepatocyte surfaces and enhanced clearance of LDL-C from plasma. Its long duration of action and high hepatic selectivity make it suitable for once-daily dosing. In addition to lipid regulation, it provides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, reduces CRP levels, and improves arterial stiffness, contributing to its overall cardioprotective profile.
General Hyperlipidemia / HeFH / Type III Dyslipidemia / Hypertriglyceridemia: → Starting dose: 10–20 mg once daily → Maintenance dose: 10–80 mg once daily → High LDL-C reduction (>45%): consider starting at 40 mg/day → Use with dietary fat/cholesterol restriction Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH): → Adults: 10–80 mg once daily → Pediatric (≥10 years): 10–80 mg once daily → With or without LDL apheresis to achieve LDL-C targets Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HeFH): → Adults: 10–80 mg once daily → Children (≥10 years): 10–20 mg once daily → Regular monitoring of lipid response and liver function Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (Primary & Secondary): → Starting dose: 10–20 mg once daily → Maintenance: up to 80 mg/day based on lipid goals → Reduces risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, and revascularization → Especially recommended for high-risk groups such as type 2 diabetics or elderly patients with multiple cardiovascular risk factors
